The Obama administration is now investigating an amazing new theory to combat the horrors of global warming (or is it supposed to be climate change now?). His science advisor is considering (get this) shooting massive amounts of pollution into the atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays.
This is from the same people who are saying that pollution CAUSES global warming! Now they’re saying it will also SOLVE it??? It seems to me that any shred of logic left these people’s minds decades ago.

Believe it or not this makes a limited amount of sense. Mind you, I said limited.
Volcanoes pump a fair amount of ash into the stratosphere, where it stays for years and cuts down on the sunlight reaching the earth’s surface. It’s commonly noted that large volcanic eruptions (Pinatubo, El Chichon, etc.) lead to colder weather. When Tambora blew up in the 1800s the next year essentially had no summer. For this to work as a cooling measure, though, we would have to put the soot or ash or whatever, into the stratosphere–just pumping it out a regular smokestack does no good.
The “pollution” alleged to cause global warming is a different sort; greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, that supposedly trap heat.
Left unsaid in all of that of course is the fact that earth was much warmer just a thousand years ago–Viking settlers grew food on Greenland!
And left unsaid (here) so I’d better make sure I say it (especially here): Of course any coercive measure to try to “fix” so-called “man made” climate problems is (duh) coercive, therefore immoral.
We know it works, because every time there was a major volcanic eruption, the Earth cooled down several degrees for years in the past. (the stuff we’re supposed to shoot-well, actually, distribute using planes- into the stratosphere is plentiful too, and quite useless otherwise) This was all well known long before Obama began looking into it, and if the Earth was really dangerously warm today, we could probably start cooling it tomorrow.
The only question is, why should we bother? The climate is doing fine, and it would still be doing fine if it warmed up a bit for some reason.
Oh and we don’t know the effects, but if we hurry up with trying it out, Al Gore won’t have time to make up horror stories about what would happen if we don’t turn off all electricity except his mansion’s flood lights right away.
These freaking people are going to do their damnedest kill us all.
What happens if they do this and then the whole system begins naturally swinging in the opposite direction toward cooling? How many people and species would a mini ice age kill? How much would global weather patterns be effected?
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. A warmer planet is a good thing for life, human and otherwise. A colder planet is deadly.
These people are talking about screwing with a system that they do not understand.
I am still agog at the claims that carbon dioxide is a pollutant, greenhouse gas, something to be worried about!!! Did these people not study basic biology in elementary school? Have they forgotten that CO2 is the lifeblood of plants? More CO2 is no cause for concern.

You are assuming that concern for the environment is in fact their primary concern and motive. Question that, and things begin to make sense thereafter.

I think I remember reading that somewhere. I just think it’s a bit ironic that the very substance that will kill us all will also save our lives.

I agree completely. It should be pretty obvious by looking at any tropical zone that warmer temperatures increase biodiversity. So my question is: how is an environmental factor with such a positive effect on life going to destroy life? I guess that question is pointless anyway since environmentalists don’t really care about the environment. It’s all about destroying capitalism.
