Hello, my name is Matt and I’m 25. As the topic describes, I’ve been reading these forums for a while now, but finally decided to register and share my views as well :dough: . I think I neglected to register sooner because I’m relatively new to Objectivism in comparison with many of you (I’ve only been REALLY into studying the philosophy for the last 7 months or so). I was introduced to Rand through my best friend. I’ve read The Fountainhead and am about 3/4ths of the way through Atlas right now (I know, I know I really need to finish it, but I’ve just not allotted myself the time recently). I’ve also read several of the essays in The Virtue of Selfishness. I don’t think I can properly call myself an Objectivist, at least not yet, because I’m not perfect about my application of it all the time, although I try to be aware of it and apply it to my daily life as much as possible. I rather think of myself as a student of it, currently.
As far as where my selfish interests lie, I’m a professional musician and have my own heavy metal band in which I’m the lead guitarist and sole songwriter, so its essentially entirely my creation and vision. I have two albums under my belt and my ultimate goal is to get the band to the point where we are a regular touring band. The other half of my musical passion is teaching; I’ve been a guitar teacher for 7 years and am fortunate enough to find myself in a teaching position where I am making 100% of my income completely from my musical talents, and I’m very proud of that.
Looking forward to participating here ![]()
