Yea, this is the beginning of the end. Welcome to the world of Atlas Shrugged. Depending on what happens over the next year drastic action may need to be taken.
Well, things have to get worse before they can get better. Americans wanted a 4 year experiment with socialism, and now they’re going to get it. When the economy collapses, maybe they’ll turn back to the capitalism and elect a true capitalist president. Right now is the opportunity for the Republican Party to go back to its principles of 100 years ago – minus the protectionism – and try to run on capitalism. I think that after 4 years of socialism, “capitalism” will be the new “change” slogan. Maybe Obama’s victory signals the height of tyranny in America – and hearkens a true revolution to bring power back to the productive instead of the looters.
Maybe. It’s just a maybe. Can’t live without hope, though..

Hey, you can’t blame me. I did everything (ok, not EVERYthing) I could to stop him. When their up to their knees in blood, It won’t be my fault.
Obama possibly may be worse then FDR. He can only hope a crisis like FDR’s (WWII) will prevent it from being noticed. I imagine that will happen. Maybe the fact that he’s African-American will make him a saint, just like Kennedy’s assassination made him a saint. But we can hope…lol…

As I was watching the election coverage, CBS kept cutting to Times Square and the jubilant crowds. I was reminded of Padme’s line in Star Wars Episode III:
“So this is how freedom dies. To thunderous applause.”
Now it has been a while since I saw that movie, so I may not have the quote entirely right.
I’m listening to McCain’s concession speech, filled with the expected platitudes about compromise and “bridging our differences.” Obama won tonight, but the entire free world has lost.
I must say that I always expected Canada would spiral into dictatorship before the US. I am not so sure now.
Unsettling to be sure. It’s tempting to at least be proud America is willing to elect a non-white president, but with a candidate like him it is just so hallow and pointless. Right now my eyes and ears are keenly focused on the Republicans reaction. I’m very curious how they plan on trying to recoup after this political smack-down. One news commenter spoke about how he thinks the Rep’s need to become “more pragmatic, and practical” and less idealistic. What a laugh. I plan to find as many avenues as possible to attempt to drive it home to the Republicans that they do so poorly because of their legislating religion.
If it’s any consolation the Dem’s will probably not get 60 seats in the senate to prevent lengthy filibusters. 4 years ago when Bush won re-election I yearned for this day to see him out of office, but I couldn’t imagine this demagogue appearing to possibly eclipse even him. It’s going to be a spooky and bizarre 4 years.
Barrack Obama as President and a Democrat majority in the House and Senate doesn’t bode well for at least the next two years. I don’t know how socialist he can make the government, and maybe…just maybe…the Republicans will get a back bone, but I wonder if the race card will work against them. It’s amazing from interviews I have seen that many blacks didn’t even care what his politics were, but to win they way he did, it wasn’t racism. I just hope that those voting for Obama were not explicitly voting for socialism, but I think he may have fished for votes by saying he was going to reduce the taxes of the middle class.
I’m certainly not happy about the prospects.
The republican party needed a slap in the face. I would hope that in another 2/4 years we would see a true capitalist party or a radically changed republican party. The latter, however, is not likely, given the core evangelical base of the Republican party.
I’m not horrified. I know it’s going to be bad. Everyone with some sense knows that. There are some truly baffling prospects, but I don’t think we’re going to be in some Socialist dystopia, guys. He’s a principled democrat. Something to be worried about, but America has overcome hardline leftists before.

The sad part is that that statement is totally accurate. We can dress it up all we want, but the point is that American just elected a socialist supermajority to rule the country of freedom and hard work. Any sane American businessman is going to move his business to China if he can, where capitalism pretty much the norm right now. Because, for now, America is royally screwed.
I forgot to add my most important point. The Republicans received the punishment they so badly deserved. But I don’t think that we can expect the GOP to “discover” capitalism, either. They will conclude that it was their last vestiges of capitalist philosophy that led to their defeat.

The Bolsheviks blamed the social democrats when their agenda didn’t work out because they weren’t radical enough in 1917. It could be the same sort of thing.
Wildly off-topic and obsessively pedantic, but we must all remember that the US does not have a directly-elected executive. Obama is not President. He won’t even be President-Elect until December 15 when the electors cast their votes.

My biggest hope is that he’s a great liar on par with clinton and won’t do any of what he promised. Somehow I don’t think it’s likely though. He was rated the most liberal senator by the National Journal. The socialist was 4th for some perspective.
It looks like they won’t quite have 60 seats in the senate which, in theory would help since it would still leave the republicans the filibuster. However since there are usually 4-8 republicans that aren’t very loyal, in effect they might not have it.
I hear that Dubai is nice this time of year.
