Finally some good news.
Some fear that the state will be unable to pay and that hillsides in the Cascades now bristling with fir trees and pear orchards could sprout a crop of McMansions, Wal-Marts or resort condominiums in a few years.
Let’s hope so.

It’s more scarey since it’s household owners that get the biggest jip from the government. Especially on road construction and so-called ‘environmental affairs.’

It’s a pejorative term for wealthy houses for the “unsophisticated.”
When housing prices took off in California and Texas and many were able to sell their houses for eight and ten times what they had paid, many moved to neighboring states where property was still cheap. When these people who were still middle-class earners built neighborhoods of similar but gigantic and luxurious houses, the houses became called McMansions.
I don’t know why the average Joe getting a shake at something wonderful is seen as such a bad thing.
