Second Renaissance Books, "History of Western Music" lecture course

Hello to all,

Back in the late 1980s I bought a lecture course on tape cassettes from Second Renaissance Books which I believe was titled “History of Western Music”. It was truly an excellent lecture course from an Objectivist point of view. I have since lost it. Does anyone know if it is available anywhere online or anywhere at all? I would love to have and listen to it again.

I don’t recall if Second Renaissance Books ever sold such a lecture series. Are you thinking of the audio lecture series, “Music: Theory, History, Performance” by Allan and Joan Mitchell Blumenthal?

If so, I wouldn’t have thought that Peter Schwartz would have included this, since Allan and Joan Blumenthal “broke” with Ayn Rand (over personal matters, I think) in the 1970s. Laissez-faire Books carried that lecture series until about 25 years ago.

It was even put up on the internet for a while, and it’s about to be taken down owing to the recent deaths of these two (Allan and Joan): musiclectures.drblumenthal.net .

Is that what you’re recalling?

Yes!

That must be it. Thank you. I’m saddened to hear that the two creators of this awesome lecture course, Joan and Allen Blumenthal, have passed away.

The website says that it will be shutdown due to their deaths. It’s such an excellent lecture course. It would be a pity if this lecture course gets lost in time.

Would you happen to know if there are any plans to make it available for purchase to the public again any time soon?

Thank you again.
