Paul says he will run for Senate

By Joseph Gerth • [email protected] [Louisville, Ky]• August 5, 2009

Bowling Green ophthalmologist Rand Paul said Wednesday that he will convert his Senate exploratory committee to a full-fledged campaign.

    ...

His politics are similar to his father's, as is his disdain for mainstream Republican initiatives that he argues led to a doubling of the federal deficit during the Bush administration.

On Saturday at the Fancy Farm political picnic, he lobbed criticisms at both Republicans and Democrats, calling “hypocrisy ... the one true bipartisan trait.”

Paul said Wednesday that his criticism of Republicans may drive away some voters but that it sets him apart from other Republicans.

He noted that when he's at Republican events and he criticizes the bank bailout bill, which was engineered in part by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, he gets applause.

“I'm a Republican,” he said. “I want us to be true to our platform. The problem is, we've elected republicans who aren't true to our platform,” he said[sic].

  2. Excellent video about rights illustrated with simple words and simple images so that even a dumb statist can understand it. This went on my blog and FB page. Excellent piece to use for activism.

    Me likey. :dough:

This is one of my most favorite recent videos. Starring Reps. Bachmann and Boehner as the heroes defending against the power hungry "witch" who uses her "Special Speaker Powers" for the purposes of evil. "Let's 'vote for' jobs!

I also enjoyed the funny gags through the rest of the video and an interesting line in the lyrics during the round table 'poker game' discussion. "Win to quit/quit to win."(@1:38) Even though they are referring to Palin, one may ponder John Galt.

Edit: As I was posting this, I'd just figured out the Waxman puppetry reference. Ha!

  3. Hi,

    I'm new to the forum.

    Good question and answers.

Wouldn't one first ask what will be the value gained and what may be the total cost (F. D'Anconia)?

In the above examples: Canaris was found out and executed(paid a price), one can only imagine the fate of the politician who proclaims

    "Hah, I'm actually pro-freedom, suckers!"
to a group of collectivist types.

If the value to be gained is exceeded by the cost of your life .....then there's the question of risk(gambling)........................

uh, excuse me.....nice meetin' you guys, I have to go read more Rand.
