Clawg
Although narrow and in places rutted, the road to Bogalay is passable. So where is the aid? The junta wants foreign supplies, but not more aid workers. The junta has delayed issuing visas to foreign aid officials. Latest reports suggest the junta will start rejecting them outright. Kyaw Mya, the ex-soldier, and tens of thousands like him await basic supplies. Yet the day before, Prime Minister Gen. Thein Sein, who is overseeing Burma's relief effort, "presented 20 sets of TV, 10 DVD players, and 10 satellite receivers" to entertain storm victims elsewhere in the delta, reported the junta newspaper The New Light of Myanmar. "The government is not coming," http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8...1738729,00.html Let's hope they packed some Rambo4 DVDs in the packet... Unfortunately: Military-run Myanmar banned DVD vendors from selling the film and any citizen from appearing in the film. "They were told, anybody from Burma -- even if they lived in Thailand for 10 years -- that their families would be put into jail," Stallone said. "But some of them did it anyway because they thought it would be very, very, very important," he said. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gIh90B...OTk_C1DffqLpjhw
gags
I wonder how they'll power the DVD players without electricity? If there were ever a situation where good men need to rise up and take control of their lives, this would be it.
K-Mac
Fortunately, the UN has done something right for once and halted aid, albeit temporarily. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080509/ap_on_...mar_cyclone_201 As hard as it would be to watch people, and especially children, suffer, I think no one should provide any aid. When the people have had enough suffering, they will figure out a way to overthrow this disastrous government.

I imagine the government in Zimbabwe will end under a knife and fork, and perhaps this one too.
