KLWilliams
There is still time to sign the petition to air the other side of the story in the debate about David Hockney's theory that the old masters used optical aids in creating their masterpieces. Art historian Dr. David Stork will be presenting an invited lecture on Optics and Renaissance Painting at the Optical Society of America's Annual Meeting on October 12th, and will include mention of the petition. An illustrated press release about the Hockney theory and petition is online at PRWeb at http://www.prweb.com/releases/2004/10/prweb166581.php You can sign the petition itself online at http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/debunk...hockney_theory/ --Kate
Laure
Yep, the press loves this kind of "science" story. It's like Chariots of the Gods -- people get carried away with these "wouldn't it be neat if.." speculations, forgetting that the onus is on them to prove it's true, not on others to prove that it isn't. (My husband was David Stork's roommate in college for awhile! Nice that he has taken this on.)

And note that Dr. Charles M. Falco is also an invited speaker, and his lecture Optics and the Old Masters will be presented just prior to Stork's. Also note that there are five other invited speakers giving lectures on this subject prior to and after the ones by Falco and Stork.
