SapereAude
http://news.yahoo.com/s/dailycaller/greekhealthsystemoptsforamputationasmoneysaver Greece's national healthcare system has decided to start doing more amputations instead of treatment as a cost cutting measure. Strangely (not) this isn't getting much play in the mainstream media. When I lived in a govt healthcare country they had a back door way of making it seem there wasn't a crisis- when the wait for procedures got too long (especially at elections time) they'd juct knock people off the list, making it look as though the waitlist for a procedure was only 6 months wehn in reality they just cut the list off. I also knew several elderly people confined to wheelchairs because giving them knee or hip surgery wasn't considered cost effective relative to their productivity. Again- something the mainstream news barely touches.
