ex_banana-eater
the closing sentence is: *facepalm* He was doing so well too... The writer means that some of Ayn Rand's ideas have penetrated into society so much that most people now hold them, compared to when she first wrote her novels. Oh, I know. I just thought it was a particularly bad way to phrase it, given the subject.
redfarmer
One thing that always bugged me though was how Barbara Branden's biography of Ayn Rand (which Ayn Rand called a bunch of slander)... I don't think Ayn Rand ever read Barbera Branden's biography of her. It was published in 1986 after Rand's death. Other supporters of Rand have criticized the book but not Rand. As for the placement, that's pretty much the way it is at any bookstore I've seen. It's too bad they don't stock Mary Ann Sures' or Jeff Britig's biographies of Rand. Those would be so much more worthwhile to read.
AshRyan
One thing that always bugged me though was how Barbara Branden's biography of Ayn Rand (which Ayn Rand called a bunch of slander) was always put next to Rand's serious non-fiction writings in the philosophy section. Isn't there some place better to put it? I also work at Barnes & Noble, and there Branden's biography is shelved in the biography section, not philosophy. A slight improvement, but I'm not so sure it can accurately be called a "biography" either. Perhaps the best place for it would be in "fiction." tommyedison
I was searching Google for "Selfishness". I was expecting to see links to altruistic diatribes. What comes up first? Amazon.com link to VOS. I think it bears testimony to the pervasiveness of Ayn Rand
