Lathanar Posted August 21, 2006 Report Share Posted August 21, 2006 So is it irrational to believe that animals have some basic rights, such as the right not to not be tortured solely for hedonistic pleasure, but that any animal's rights can get easily trumped by a person capable of exerting sophisticated moral judgement's rights if they conflict? There is no right not to be tortured for animals, there are no rights for animals. The immorality does not derive from any rights of the animal, it is derived from the hedonism, which is immoral no matter what form it takes.
