3. If the companies are just as unsuccessful as NASA, many of them will collapse and would cause further economic downfall.
It isn't the government's decision-- or right-- to stop companies from spending their money on certain projects in case it might lead to economic depression.

Ender's Game or The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

Futurama also had a brief mention. I forgot the episode, but Fry, Leila, and Bender were underground New New York and and somebody said "There's nothing down here but [something] and old Ayn Rand books."

The worst reference I've seen was in South Park, where that officer guy learns to read and is given a copy of Atlas Shrugged. At the end of the episode he makes a speech saying that the book is the worst book in the entire world and he is giving up reading.

I have Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime, I really love it. But downloading songs is horribly immoral, so I only have a small collection of CDs as they are expensive. But I plan to get more.

I'm really into progressive bands (Dream Theater, Symphony X, Liquid Tension Experiment, etc) but I also love fusion (that being the fusion of funk into different genres, mostly rock and jazz). Anything riff based, complex, melodic, and uplifting, basically. I believe music to be the ultimate form of expression, beyond the confines of language. I like music that contains my ideals, only in a completely non-verbal way. Lyrics tend to get in the way of that, but I don't mind them most of the time.
Funnily enough, my backup plan is architecture.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the band Spiral Architect has a song called The Fountainhead, and my friend says they have other objectivist songs too.

Just saying hi, I hope to spend a lot of time here. I'm 16, I live in Canada of all places, and I'm going into grade 12. I was turned onto Objectivism when I was 13 or 14--I can't quite remember--but it's been pretty well incorporated into everything that I am. My parents thought I was just going through a phase, but they are beginning to become very worried. My father (A CEO of all things) has threatened to put me into a psychological institute because he thinks something is very wrong with me, and my mother is threatening to kick me out of the house if I'm not "nicer" to her. My old sister claims to cry for me every night and calls me heartless.
On a lighter note, I enjoy reading, sports, and music. I plan to be a professional guitar player after I leave high school.

I was rereading the Fountainhead in the library one time and one of the science teachers came up to me, took the book out of my hands, looked at it, then gave it back to me. He asked me why I was reading 'extreme Facist propaganda' on school property; I told him that I was free to read what I wanted and that The Fountainhead was anything but Facist propaganda.
A few days later in the halls he asked to speak to me. I was confused at first because I didn't have him as a teacher, but he led me into his room and gave me a stack of papers, then continued teaching his current class. I took a look at the papers since I had a free period and it turned out they were all Facist documents. They were horribly disgusting, explaining the principles of Facism.
Now here's the kicker: my friends tell me the teacher isn't a Facist. So I guess that he was trying to turn me off Facism (Not that I needed help).
