  1. loves Spaceballs. Has to wonder why the Spaceballs never put a backup Sel-Destruct Cancellation button on that ship though or why everything in the freaking future needs a Self-Destruct button.

  2. Me : "So what exactly is a feild?" Physicist : "It is a physical event described by a mathematical field". Me : "So...WHAT IS it?" Physicist : "It is a physical event describ..." Me : "No, I mean what is it...it cant be just maths...." Physicist gives me a blank look as if I had just asked him what color the concept of "force" is.

  3. does not like having to point out to his lecturer that he is teaching things the stupid way. Velocity is VECTOR quantity, not a scalar and no *college level* paper should present it as if it was simply a scalar.

  4. just found out my Computer Graphics course uses Java ( as well as C++ though thankfully). Why? The horror!

  5. Lame! A primality test that checks for numbers larger than the square root. In an algorithm design book at that! Way to set a bad example...

  6. modern economics : The practise of taking money from one hand and putting it in the other one , and in the process dropping half of the money and then claiming that you are now richer.

  7. is not sure what is more amusing : A forum thread about Star Wars fanboys bitching about the time Luke Skywalker walked on lava in one of the novels ( yeah you dont have to like it, but starting a thread to bitch about it pushes you into the scary category of geeks) or the fact that someone in there finds Jesus walking on water much more credible, especially as apparently it really happened.

  8. finds it funny when determinists get angry at people for ...well ...anything really. According to their view, is that not rebelling against the metaphysically given?

  9. using a binary tree to store sequentially ordered data...lol...

  10. does not see how the following is "baiting" : "Is there? I do not see very much of that, certainly not on the part of myself or Kane. But you are the sort of person that would probably think that anyway ( or maybe not this time ). " Either the accusation is wrong, or I am missing some rule of etiquette or something..

  11. needed to whip out a quick program to add extensions to folders in a directory today. Thank you .NET, for providing all those classes that allowed me to do this in three lines of code and in about 30 seconds. (I could have written a command script, sure, but I can use this in both Linux and Windows).

  12. wonders : If one glances at words and then jumps to a parallel universe where the words mean the exact opposite of in almost every respect, does that count as reading?

  13. War is the broken window fallacy all over again - Except that you break everyones windows and then claim that this generates wealth. But destruction is still not production, it is the quite the reverse. Again modern economists : At best it results in the diversion of resources, at worst their prevention of productive activity and economic growth.

  14. went out and got a Kobo ebook reader today. Not sure what the prices of Kindle or Nooks are in other countries ( neither are sold here in NZ), but at considering it starts about about UDS$130 (more here), its not a bad option if you want something that just read ebooks and you dont care if it does much of anything else. The latest model has Wifi and a touch screen too.

  15. Unfortunately for all the progress Objectivism has made : It still has a long way to go in many "circles". At least in terms of people having the slightest ability to understand anything Ayn Rand has written. Too many people seem to read it and walk away without a CLUE as to what any of it really means. I suppose the modern education system and its multilation of brains would do that.

    1. ttime

      ttime

      You're awesome.

  16. "I adore brilliant villains almost as much as I adore ingenious heroes." - Seems to me like you value nothing Mr [Name Removed].

  17. If you have seen Atlantis but insist on wallowing in a swamp : Then something in you is dead. Instead of growing wings and flying to unimaginable heights, you have multilated your soul.

  18. is composing a collection of common/particularly bothersome logical fallacies for an article on his blog. He would welcome anyone with any suggestions for more obscure ones I might have missed.

  19. sign that you are a total nerd # 42 : You go down for a nap and dream about having a prolonged IM with someone you meet on a forum about programmable fridges, with their own programming language.

  20. "Is the requirement of "falsifiability" a valid criteria for scientific truth?" is the current topic (until I say otherwise) for his Reasons Domain Chat. You can find that here at : http://www.reasonsdomain.com/chat/

  21. Dont ask your . NET program to do the following 1000 times, unless you are trying to benchmark it/your computer ( not MUCH of a benchmark of anything except for disk speed though) : Open an image file ( of about 189KB in size) , store the Base64 string version of that image, open a file and then append that Base64 string to file , closing the file.

  22. wants all his friends (that are interested in the thing I am about to mention ) to spread the word : Today in the Reasons Domain Chat we are discussing "Inventions You Would Love To See (That Might Be Possible)". Come on in if you want to hear about some interesting ideas for technology! www.reasonsdomain.com/chat/

  23. is suddently short a player or two for his online Pathfinder ( D&D based ) game this weekend. Anyone interested in joining in?

  24. is considering the option of creating a moderated chatroom where it will not be a bannable offense to treat irrational people with anything less than the utmost respect. I consider it stupid to have rules which forbid treating such people "Badly", even after they continue to act like morons. Anyone interested?

  25. is considering writing a book/ a long series of articles on my thoughts on the current state of mathematics, its vital importance and its proper role in human cognition/the sciences. Though The Logical Leap sort of covers this.
