  1. When I first saw my girlfriend, I titled my head to the side and my eyes got all big. It was so utterly queer that someone had the same mannerism as me, but in a different and refreshing way. After you get to noticing the little things people do and you see someone starkly different... it can happen.
  2. I know where you are. I've been through the exact same thing. When you know what you want, its impossible to keep friends that have another or just flat out wrong direction in life. The entire problem you're facing is losing your friends. The reason you're getting down about it is because you haven't accepted it. Well my friend, accept that friends of high quality are rare and a treat when found, and be okay with what you have now. As soon as you really accept that there aren't any noble friends around, your chin will lift up and you're much more likely to see someone worth talking than if you would looking at your feet and saying "how typical" (odd, I've said those exact same words to the same situation too).
  3. What? I've been in telemarketing. Was fired for low sales... 3 times? From the same place, keep in mind. Very high turnover rate.
  4. Usually I get in trouble for "ad hominems" while trying to get someone to come to a head on what they are or are not. The last discussion I had that could have something demonstrable as to what I'm talking about was me calling someone a hypocrite, because they were waivering between saying reality was subjective to what people think, then it wasn't. I usually get red flagged on the hypocrite part. I also got banned from some objectivist chat room for talking to more than one person at a time, then arguing with the room owner (not sorry for that). Either way, if I post enough you'll see what I'm talking about, and can judge it to be good or bad firsthand. (Edit: Removed quote of entire previous post - sNerd)
  5. Don't listen to this guy. This is what happens when reason stops and idol-worship begins. Address her however gets the ID across, as that's all saying "rand" is... AN IDENTIFICATION SO WE CAN BE ON THE SAME PAGE. If you want to start fights over etiquette, go elsewhere. I think objectivists are the least kind of people that stand for that kind of dogmatic crap. Or at least I hope so here.
  6. I seem to be the only one on here concerned with speed instead of economy. :\ I suppose I could say my motorcycle gets great gas mileage, but I didn't really get it for that reason. Nor do I have a picture of it. :\ I DONT use this as my daily driver though. All the goodies that make it go faster also make it get about 8 mpg. And on that note of salivating over motorcycles.... Dodge Tomahawk. Viper v-10 engine, 400 mph top speed. Not road legal (I think). Noone has had the balls to test the 400 mph speed max, I might add. Or the will to die. XD Oh, and... its a concept with a 450,000 dollar pricetag. I think 10-15 were made? Saw this bad boy in real life. Its NICE.
  7. Hello. I found this forum just today while looking for some answers, and I think it may be just what the doctor ordered. I'm an atheist and anarchist... the anarchism being the only reason I don't consider myself objectivist. To be short... I used to be driven and dynamic, and I've becomd stagnant and unhappy. I'm looking for a few things I knew at one time but hadn't defined (thus they didn't stick) and hope to find them sooner by being here and talking and debating with everyone. I hope I can get along with all the administrators here, as they're the only ones I usually ever have a problem with. I hope this forum is as free as it should be. If it is I'll enjoy myself and everyone here, I'm sure.
  8. Hm. I think this thread really begs for a definition for what sleep is. My opinion? Its kind of like defragmentation for the mind. When I close my eyes after a day of whatever (especially a busy day) its like a torrent of images and things that happened that day (or the past week, whatever) or just plain imagination creating for me a problem my unconscious mind needs to look at and go through. When I drift to sleep that torrent slows down until I can pick something out of it and comprehend it... understand it... enter the strain of thought I was looking at when I branched off there. I find always that my dreams are a direct relation to my life, no matter how bizzare. The dream is just a way of symbolizing some problem you had in life, and letting you relive it. Letting you think over what you did and perhaps gain some insight as to what else you could've done. After a good nights' sleep you'll notice a decision that stumped you or just didn't feel right may have a new angle or approach you didn't see before that feels right and new. And of course, accpeting sleep as an eventuality you must deal with is an important part of good sleep.
  9. I don't think that's at all what he had in mind. I can understand what you're feeling. For me, its because I'm stagnant right now in life, at least comparitively with what I want to do. I remember being driven, I remember loving life fully, and now I don't. I've made some bad decisions and gotten myself into a corner. I just have to hit bottom to get a foothold to stand back up. I'd suggest doing the same. Just think about the things you want to do before you die. Think long and hard if what you're doing is really something you'll want to think back and remember as something you've done. Its not too hard... just think of the things you remember and enjoy. Its usually something along those lines that you really want to do rather than (perhaps?) the job you don't like so much now?
  10. Noone here questions whether the price of music cds is inflated due to a society crafted on a wrong premise. For me, the choice is simple. Normally, I wouldn't buy cds. Never have, never will. I'd just as soon listen to the radio. But when I download cds and like something, I may buy the cd (which I have, not that often granted). But one thing my downloading music does it spreads it to people who'd of never heard of the music before. I know my pirating has spread music and gotten sales from people who'd of never heard of it otherwise. Say all you want about pirating, but I'm moral and a pirate. Nothing will change that. Check your premises. You'll find one of them is wrong.
