The first by Alice Miller "For Your Own Good-Hidden Cruelty in Child-Rearing and the Roots of Violence" She condemns the belief "Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child" and states that the 4th commandment is destroying our children and has continued unabaded thoughout many generations. No Spank is promoting her book and has some very interesting links. It's the curse of being a subject of the public school prison system. Those who attend SVS (google for sudbury valley) schools are able to discuss things at an adult level, because of the rich experiences they've had interacting with other students and staff and just doing their own thing. The above problem is not an age issue, but mostly because the system doesn't allow for children or young people to have experiences of their own.

Isn't the current controlling class wonderful. Everyone preaches that their curriculum is best, or that their way is the best. Yet none or very few have questioned the actual **sitting behind the desk** model of learning. For a model that is truely different and allows the students to make their OWN choices with what they want to learn might I suggest the SVS model. SVS SVS Network
