My god. How does this man have a spot of television. Seriously.
Well, he can be quite entertaining, and given the relatively moribund state of MSNBC, I guess they figure "How many people can he possibly offend? Nobody watches us anyway!". Whatever.

Wow. I guess he was the first HS Senior to have ever pushed the envelope. Congratulations seem to be in order!
Really, could the school have possibly over-reacted more grotesquely than this? WTF, how long are we going to just stand by and let free expression be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness? Disgusting.

So bringing this all together, how would you concisely respond to the argument: "well, a little bit of re-distribution/coercion never hurt anyone!"
This seems to concede that both re-distribution and coercion are wrong. Why would anyone knowingly allow for wrong things to be done? Does that not make ethics irrelevant?

Another idea, that may or may not be possible with this software, is the use of "tagging" (a la Slashdot), and then sorting/searching on the "tags".
Just a thought....

Well, because if we determine it is arbitrary, shouldn't we try to "correct" for it? Just like we "correct" for gravity? IE, it isn't fair that some are born smarter and stronger, so shouldn't we do what we can to re-distribute wealth to those who are worse off to raise their position to the highest level society can afford?
I'll assume sarcasm here.

Why try to anthropomorphize nature? "Fairness" is a value judgement. Nature, per se, makes no judgements. It just is.

It would seem that the type of laws the hypothetical legislator would construct would largely depend on that legislator's view of man. If he does not view man as being generally capable, he will likely support more socialist-leaning laws. On the other hand, if he views man as being generally able to overcome adversities, he will support more Capitalist-ic laws.

I do not disagree with any of the above. However, how do you answer those who worry about the potential bias that might follow a large donation?
If the donation were targeted, as required by law (in our theoretical world, anyway), what "bias" could come about?

For his latest abortion of a documentary, Michael Moore has taken 9/11 survivors to Cuba to showcase the superior health care provided by the Butcher of the Carribean.
Perhaps he'll stay.....</wishful thinking>

On the other hand, I would like to give props to my opponents on this forum for firmly implanting in my mind the image of Kim as a pirate. Pirates, like chimps, are inherently funny; and the idea of Kim in a pirate suit really makes my day.
Chimps and pirates with nukes? Maybe not so funny. + =

As a side note, I have an idea. We should start a campaign to make sure that every seat in the House and Senate is filled by a Muslim. That would be a sure-fire way to eliminate pork spending.
Nice!

Clearly you have missed a key point.
Ask yourself this question
1) Did Ayn Rand not suggest that there are no contradictions?
Then from in human experience's we have seen that there are beginnings and endings in everything. ...
So where/when did god end?
Just asking....

I believe this is arguably an instance of child abuse.
Abuse, as determined by...? By what standard? What role are the parents to play in your definition?
Should it be against the law to have sex in your front yard, in full view of passersby? I say "yes", this should be against the law. This may be considered rude behavior. Should rudeness be a crime? Do passers-by have a veto on what may go on between consenting individuals on private property? Should the state get involved?
Normally, one has to give his consent to be exposed to this sort of thing. You haven't been to Mardi Gras, have you?
...I think that forcing a child to watch pornographic material could qualify as an instance of child abuse. That is essentially what happened here.
--Dan Edge
Would "allowing" the child to watch said material constitute abuse? If the child could have gone off to play Nintendo rather than sit there and watch, does that change the equation at all?

This video is really good. Watch it! I think it gives a very good indication of why this whole thing is utter bullshit, to put it bluntly.
Seems to be missing/link went bad.

From what you say, the introductory book I linked to above (that uses C++ examples) would probably be a good bet.
Ick. C++.
If you wish something more high-level (less close to the gears, as it were), I would suggest Python. There are a ton of tutorials out there, you can become productive pretty quickly, and it is pretty easy to read the source code. On top of all that, it is cross-platform and free.

Extremely unlikely. Unattractive is not a federally-protected category.
Damn!

I don't think Kant equates the good with a value (that would be the satisfaction of inclinations), rather he equates it with rational behavior (that's duty). [edit: And for him, rational behavior means that it must be universalizable.]
As I understand it, for Kant, duty is an end in itself. Therefore, no answer need be given for why one should act from duty other than because it is his duty.
How does he define morality, if not with reference to a moral actor? As a floating abstraction?

This question is like, "Have you stopped beating your wife?" So, I don't know what to say, really. Sorry?
Apples and oranges.
Given that a value (the Good) implies a valuer, the question remains unanswered: Good for whom?

For a great argument from a 'global warmer denier' type in Lord Monckton letter. He gives a great speech about what environmentalists are really trying to accomplish and shows us that the histeria over global warming is overhyped. His letter is in response to a letter sent by senators Rockefeller and Snowe trying to intimidate Exxon Mobil.

The world will stay Balkanized to some extent until there is a reason for it to unite. The only reason I can foresee is a threat from outside (a la Independence Day).
Think about this: people will always want to maintain a "way out". If there is no "somewhere else", they will have nowhere to go. This need for an escape route cuts across all lines in society.

Hello.
I am currently living in Sterling Heights. I grew up in Clinton Tonship, and then moved to Oak Park before this place.
....And what about Michiganoid?

I just love getting very religious cards from those who know my feelings on the subject. Especially appreciated are the Right-to-Life cards that piss my wife off.
I usually return a FSM card.

Odd how chicoflaco just kind of disappeared after being challenged to support his rhetoric, eh?
