  1. Why prop up a failing company when quite frankly they just need to go bankrupt?

GM has clearly shown that they can't stabilize their business so why give them billions to burn through? The fact of the matter is the executives of this company are using the mantel of "all those poor workers" losing their jobs to allow them to keep their jobs.

How many poor workers are there??? Because on average 4.5 million workers quit or are fired in a month but 4.6 million workers start a new job in a month.

  2. This thread personifies the phrase "Different Strokes For Different Folks" I like girls with the hourglass figure. I really don't see how stick thin girls are so attractive to some people. Too me girls without the womanly shape look kind of like young boys with long hair.

  3. First, regardless of who would get into office in this election the same thing would not have been repeated in terms of overspending.

In terms of a magnitude of an economic disaster - yes he can and if he can get his way he will. The reason why he wants to cut your defense spending is to free the money for his programs. He wants your country to become dependent on government involvement in the energy industry in order to meet your energy needs. He wants to collapse self sustainable programs based on ideology and replace them with those which won't be able to surive without government handouts (which means under government control).

He won't put the country into the next Great Depression, especially not under his administration and not after if he can help it - he is after greater control over industry for now and future. Economic collapse does not suit his goal of economic equality. Some has to be producing and so he will cook you slowly like you do a frog.

I worry about his tax cuts the least. The real reformation (if he is smart and he is) is going to be done with much more subtley.

You shouldn't fear Obama. You should fear the colleges that are preaching the Kant/Leftist philosophy to the young people. Obama is just a product of it. There are some very smart people who are leftist.

  4. I think one of the things to keep in mind is that Obama is not likely to go whole hog and try to get everything he wants, because then there would be rebellion. Witness the recent altering of his website on service where it said service would be "required". He got rid of the word "required". I'm sure he was experiencing a huge backlash to that, so he simply changed some wording around to make the move more palatable to more people.

    You can see this here:

That's the approach leftists use. They aren't going to be stopped. Instead, they’ll just find a way to implement their ideas by more sneaky means.

Btw, I recommend people listen to this lecture by Craig Biddle, McBama versus America. It seems religion is being used by the left now.

    http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pag...bama_vs_america

Obama is religious and is using religion to bring a moral component to his message. For example, “I am my brother’s keeper” was a central message of his campaign. Given this, maybe we haven’t gotten rid of religion.

  5. The 3 American automakers are all in deep trouble, with General Motors leading the way. Last quarter GM and Ford burned through nearly $30 billion in cash and GM may not have enough to last through the end of this year. Over the most recent 4 years, GM and Ford (the two largest US auto companies) have lost more than $85 billion.

House Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid are now both saying that they favor using some of the $700 billion in bailout money to assist the auto makers. The most recent figure is something in the range of an additional $25 billion in government loans. If you recall, this would be on top of the first $25 billion of taxpayer money that was recently promised to the Detroit 3 to help them build new fuel efficient vehicles.

Although I live and work in Michigan and the loss of any of the 3 auto companies would devastate this state, the idea of a government bailout is a horrible one. This bailout will not change the underlying fundamentals of the US auto market, and it will not correct the obvious competitive disadvantages under which the US companies operate. Unfortunately, the auto industry is heavily regulated and American companies have been hurt badly by this type of government intervention in the market. Nevertheless, the management at the Detroit 3 is now begging for more of the poison that helped to make them sick in the first place. It's a disgusting spectacle to watch as the businessmen who run what were once the world's most powerful industrial companies are now seen licking the boots of Pelosi and Reid, begging for a government handout. Ugggh.

    Interesting...

Gags can you explain how exactly Michigan has been hurt by the government? How did the government hurt the auto industry and the businesses in Michigan? I do know that Michigan has one of the highest tax burdens in the country but I'm trying to understand this stuff and I don't live in Michigan.

  6. I won't be terribly sad if he selects Clinton's cabinet. Am I the only person who thinks Clinton wasn't terrible? I really don't think he was a member of the New Left, and with a Republican congress we saw the best years in a damn while.

I read somewhere that Clinton was somewhat a believer in smaller government eventhough he was a democrat. Anybody have any quotes of his regarding the governments role? And what does he(not his wife) think caused the current crisis? I can't find anything.

Bush got in because he was change in the "ethical christian" department.

  7. 'Pinch Me' ... A message from Michael Moore.

My favourite part: "In a nation that was founded on genocide and then built on the backs of slaves, it was an unexpected moment, shocking in its simplicity: Barack Obama..."

LOL so the US was the only country who had slaves now??? Many of the Africans that were brought to America were slaves in Africa as well. I'm not saying it is justified at all. I'm saying that, that was the time period before individual rights.

  8. Obama's public persona isnt remotely Marxist and anyone who thinks it is has a superficial understanding of Marx and probably hasnt read more than the Communist Manifesto (if even that).

Regarding Obama's intelligence, you cant really judge him on his public persona because his speeches exist in a political climate which is geared towards soundbites and anti-intellectualism. No mainstream American politician is going to come across as being intelligent, because intelligence isnt a value which is currently respected in mainstream American politics. I remember reading some accounts of Obama written by his former students though, and they pretty much all agreed that he came across as extremely intelligent while working in academia, and they felt that his political speeches were very dumbed down (which is to be expected).

What do they mean by "dumbed down"? He used bigger/smarter words in the classroom than he does in his political speeches? I don't get it.

  9. Always glad to meet another lurker.

The most detailed demonstration of the frog in the frying pan theory that I know of,

    is Peikoff's "The Ominous Parallels."

I know this is just wikipedia but some of the similiarities are uncanny... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi-Germany Take a look at what it reads under the subtitle, "Economy". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Nazi_Germany

  10. Fun stuff here.

    ...*sigh*.

This is getting out of hand. I don't like McCain at all, don't get me wrong, but the Obama supporters have formed a religion, a cult, even. The violence is starting BEFORE the election is even over. I'm wondering what will happen if Obama doesn't win. Although the chances of that are slim.

There is something fishy about that story to me.

  11. The lecture you're referring to is in the Voice of Reason, if memory serves.

But this quote, at the top of the site, is credited to Thomas Sowell. Taking a search on Google, it seems credited to him in all the usual quote sites as well.

After a little research, I think it may have come from Sowell's book "Inside American Education" ( http://www.amazon.com/Inside-American-Educ...l/dp/0029303303 ). Using my browser's Ctrl+F function, I search Johnny and it comes up with a similar quote in one of the book's reviews:

If there are so many kids falling behind it could mean that there is a problem with the school system. How many people learn their jobs from textbooks? Students have to be motivated to learn in spite of- not because of school. After all nobody can teach you as well as you can teach yourself. Only time people are bored is when they aren't thinking enough.
