  1. There's enough history for that belief to be true. Religious persecution is so old that it was collectiong Social Security 3 millenia before there was Social Security The religionist is, at heart, a puppet, living his life for the greater glory of God. How would he even understand Galt's oath, he hasn't the experience, worldview or mindset for it. That was done for awhile between 1976 and 1988. Guess who broke the deal, as I knew they would. How do you make a deal with someone for whom reality is malleable? What's to stop him from having a "revelation" that God told him that the deal was now annulled? Many Muslims think it clever to trick the Infidel and once's word given to an infidel is not binding. That's why these are alliances and not oaths of eternal friendship. An alliance is only to meet a specific, common, critical threat. We have permanent interests and permanant principles, but we do not have permanant friends. I found that out the hard way with a so-called Objectivist of almost 22 years standing. In fact, it was the person who introduced me to Rand.
  2. Correctamundo to the last nanometer!!! That's why I use a range pot. I can get at every part of it. The Mr. Coffee was great until I had to clean it. I followed the directions to the last micron but there were two problems 1) many parts that came in contact with the coffee were plastic and I could not get at all the parts to clean it. There is another proablem. Coffee, to be at its best should be made at 200. Otherwise it is either undercooked or bitter oils are brewd in. Ther's a significant drop in temperature, to about 180 between the time the water leaves the heater until it hits the grounds. So you may have to set the heater to 210 or better. if you have that option.
  3. True but I'm a membe of the KISS school: Keep It Simple; Stupid. Your solution to my donute probem adds complications to things involving common fractions. How do I know that each person got exactly 1/3 of the remaing donut over which a quarrel may ensue or that the competion, which I must design around 3 possible strangers may lead to conflict... I don't know about the Persians number system but the duodecimal system is implicit in many of the things we measure. I think the decimal system arises from finger counting. I wonder what the Chinese had. When I learned multiplication, the table was 12x12, which puzzled me, so we must have gotten it from somewhere I was able to find the Babylonian system. http://www.math.wichita.edu/history/topics...html#babylonian Were they a high civilization? just bearly 3D. At 2.54 cm to the inch, that's tiny. and much greater fractionation than .5 and you start hitting the trasncopic i.e. hard to see and I'm using the human system as my benchmark. There are machines that work on the thousanths of an inch, but the are machines, not people and how usable is the cm from 18+ inches out? I had several 1g weigths in my junior science lab 50 years ago. Touche! I ought have been more specific "Not as well" That to which I was responding said or implied that the judgement of the English system being "bad", which word was used, was that the rest of the world does not use it and that to do that was a distraction. For the very reasons you bring forth in your last quote For me, as a psychologist and historian, which I then use to predict. The basis of a measuring system to be used by human beings. ought be graspable in human terms. The inch does that better than the meter, from which youmust work down to get one-hnaded measurments and the gram is at best borderline detectable in human terms. Also the number system by which it works ought make it frangible in as many common fractions without "crumbs' as possible. My donut problem was a real-world scenario. the 60ths system accommodates both and can be doubled to a 120 system. but that's getting steep. In some ways the English system braks down. particularly with rods and miles; and don't get me going with nautical miles. Then there are furlongs
  4. You are exactly right. For the same reason that I said there is no such "thing" as atheism or an atheist, since that states what you are NOT, not what you are. e,g. Communist, Objectivist, Existentialist, etc. Why this is crucial is that, to operate, the Law of Identiy needs something on which to get traction and it cann't do that on a "not". You have it right but the hypothesis is false. Watch Barney Frank or Nancy Pelosi in action and the eco's are totally devoid of reason. The whole liberal gestalt is more like the termitary that they chose as their model 80 years ago. In fact it is now the religionists who are more amenable to reason at least in personal inclination if not doctrine.. Of the liberals Rand said in the middle 1970's "[with respect to those of the pre-1960 era] Though they were wrong, I envied them their methodology [logic and reason]: Today they are in no such danger" Now, let that brew ferment for 34 years and tell me what you have. But there were still good reasons to prefer Obama to McCain. http://cockpit.spacepatrol.us/08feb.html I computed that a McCain victory would move the Republican party about 20 points to the left from 60% right to 40% and this would be irreversible, leaving no viable alternative to some form of liberalism being the permanent baseline and proceeding left from there. At leat now, the Republican brand is still salvageable and since we are locked by law, for all practical purposes, in a two-party system, that's important. Also the Democrats would bring their schemes to fruition Prematurely and hurriedly so that by 2011, it would be plainly apparent just what liberalism is and what it does. Mine was sort of a rope-a-dope tactic. Let them win the political battles then let reality do my dirty work for me. To cheat fools, give them that for which they ask The fact is that we must deal in the world as it is. Principles and concepts are hierarchical and we live in a mixed system. To abandon a lesser principle in order to achieve a geater one is not a comprmise. To pass on a goal today makes no law that I will not come back for it tomorrow. A competent thief will often hide the treasure in the same room as it was in, and return for it when the hubbub has died away. Also things are done in two templates. Successive approximations. getting first to the ballpark, then the infield, then the pitchers' mound or home plate. Another template is incrementalism, taking what you can get at any givine time without trying for the home run all the time. Yet another characteristic of the mixed system is that the agressor is responsible for the results of his actions. as Rand said "The only thing you can do with a criminal os to crack his skull before he cracks yours". If there is a significant threat they doing whatever it takes to nullify it is no compromise since individual life is the standard of value. Therefore all bets are off. There are persons in this world to whom I regularly and gleefull "lie" for my own ends. Galt's Gulch has not yet been built. let alone become the world empire. In line with this, see also "The Question of Scholarships" in The OBJECTIVIST. Also the libs have a religion: Environmentalism, which they enforce with the viciousness that the Iranian mulluhs and ayatollahs would be embarrassed to emulate as it's sooooooo over the top.
  5. Two things 1) I can grasp 1/3 of a foot without it being an infinite decimal (but not 1/5 or 1/7) 2) integers play a large role in math If you have 10 donuts and 3 persons, how do you parcel them out? If I have 12 donutes and 2, 3, 4, or 6 persons, I can do that Just because you and I arne't phobic about the decimal point. Being me, one of my accessories is a calculator anywy: A SCIENTIFIC calculator. But I don't have delusions of being everybody. Some persons have other things to do I'm at home in either system But for human activities the duodecimal fits best. Next is the hexadecimal, COMPTERS ANYONE? Aoout the weakest systems would be th septimal, 1 and 7, or the 11tal; 1, 11. Even base 16 gets a bit unwielday in size. and that's thw whole 1b'. Besides, in my browser I have this: http://console.spacepatrol.us/000starthere.html which I used yesterday to convert 117mm to inches so that I could get an idea of what the object lookedl like The other problem is that the base unit of lenth of the English system is the inch, a very visible unit in size and you work up from there. for the metric it's the meter which is a bit large for comprehensibilit, requiring tow hands to express rather than two fingers. The individual mm is indecernable and the individual cem nearly so. Could you discern the weight of a gram in your hand? I presume here that we are using Man as the standard of value, not machines, which are a creation and therefore a devivative of Man who therefore has metaphysical pre-eminence here. Also in response to the claim that the English system is so bad because the resto of the world doens't use it. Would you care to live under the political and economic systems of the rest of the world, read: Socialism, Communism, Welfare Stat, tribalism, theocracy, etc? If you want to throw "the rest of the world" at me. Who saved their ass twice in a big way and several times in small ways? That is a fact of reality. To which nation did Ayn Rand choose to emigrate and why? and that is a fact of reality. The idea that something is good because it is used by a majoriyt of moribund, underdeveloped or developing nations is so collectivistic and avoiding of the issue that it ought not even be uttered in this place for the anti-Objectivism it displays Remember the majority of the world believes in supernatural deities. I guess that makes Objectivism bad since the rest of the world doesn't use it. Also on which leg of the journey is the boat fuller: Coming to the US or going from the US? and for most of the latter, the stay is temporary. I don't see China, Russia, Iran or Saudi Arabia bitching about illega immigration. Don't throw the rest of the world as a justifacaion for anything at me because I'll concede it and ask you if all of it is what you really want? When you let the cat in, does she leave her tail outsie? As Miss Rand said on several occations. "Accept it and take them at their word, then follow the logic". Now let's watch all the picking and choosing that goes on, which will be a total distraction reminiscent of a Frisco D'Anconia-caused circus.
  6. One almost has to wonder about this. Consider: Objectivism is a strong philosophy which means it is vividly defined and is doctrinnaire (All good systems are). This make it an integrated (organized and systematized) whole:means a "complete system", This makes it exclusionary; You either is or you isn't, anything that uses some of it is none of it. and is a distortion, misuse or betrayal of it and is said to be a betrayal or Ayn Rand, which mkes her somewhat of a revered figure (rightfully so, in the sense of Aristotle, Washington, Jefferson, Newton, Einstein, Heinlein or Moog). in The OBJECTIVIST NEWSLETTER, she said that there was an "intllectual division of labor" and "We are the theoreticians". Multiple witnesses say that when someone was given the heave ho it was in front of the the assembly which kind of backs up Branden's statements in JUDGEMENT DAY about being "the enforcer" (Reason's review of that publication). Also the non-theoreticians were not allowed to call themselves "Objectiivsits" rather they were "Students of Objectivism". These point to the "medical minimum" for an organization or certainly of being "organic" Now, whether there ought be an organized Objectivism. There is what I call "institutional Objectivism" that consists of the doctine, the people who practice and promulgate it and such groups, which are organized at some level, though which it is done and the means by which it is done. It might be proper for us to develop the social networks to integrate things. I do some of it at my domain by putting all things Objectivist that pass muster with me. I use the domain to both introduce Oism in what I judge to be its purest form, and also as a "military" entity. In fact my major websites are Objectivist-related. You will see how if you use the link in my sig. This state of affairs points to, at some point in time. an organized Objectivism, However, I'm in no hurry as this will be beyond my lifetime. I use, as my template, Church history. That is what I meant when I said elsewhere "...We could still shatter [does 'herding cats' do it for you]. We have yet to have our council of Nicea". Some of that seems to be done here and for the most part, we have it right. What we are missing are presence, a path from there to here and outreach. We have to do three things: Stop acting like we're sui generis, et people know we're here and participate in the society at large.
  7. There is one advantage to English system of length. It's duodecimal. factors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 3 of those equal a yard also the circle is 360 degress. The hour is 60 minutes which I believe we got from the Persians Whay is that important? I can divide a foot into twelfths, sixth, thirds and quaters without any "crumbs". I can divide yards the same way, ditto hours, with the addition of 5. the only two irreducible factors in the metric system are 1, 2 and 5. Feet, degrees and hours supports more of the common fractions evenly Quarts fractionate by 1,2,4 and up to gallons In the 1960's when bulk transport of milk from the farm to the dairy came into it's own. Milk was measured in two ways; by the "jug" or 40 quarts and by the hundredweight (100 lbs) The pumps that were used to move the milk from tank to tank were calibrated in jugs per minute while payment was measured in hundredweights, as in 30 cents per hundredweight. There was an interesting unit of distance used by the ancient Persians. The farsang. or parasang. It was actually variable and is calculated as ranging from 3 to 3.5 miles. One farsang was the distance a caravan could trevel in one hour. The reason for the variability was that travel was slower over rough or hilly terrain than over smooth, flat terrain. ,
  8. For the same reason that there's a ton of Latin in the European languages despite the fact that Rome fell over 1500 years ago. Dynamic peoples spread their system. What would you replace it with? The metric system is great in the lab but in the real world? not there. The Farenheit scale is more sensitive than the Celsius. The Americans were instrumental in two major war victories and they did it in feet-pounds-quarts. The Brits had an empire for 300 years. It's the same reason that English is a premier language. Winners not only write history. they set the standards as well as the pace. Thaese standards last until somone does better with other standards. Read "Global Balkanization" paying attention to the part about English. In the case of Asia, English is far simpler than Chinese or Japanese. You learn a technology in the language of the persons who spread it. Many things were not invented in the US, we took them and made them commercial successes and broght the price down. Also some things that were invented in the US and are named in English but were made commercial successes by other nations, like the VCR carry the English language with them. Outsourcing is requiring many Asians to learn English to deal with American customers of the US-based companies that hire these ASians As we decay into a Welfare/Consumerist State of some mongrel kind, the Asians are learning from the book we wrote and are adopting elements of capitalism, thus showing the difference between the inheritors and the humgry. There are many reasons, but they all point to a dynamic people exporting what they used successfully.
  9. As a space patroller, I patrol cyberspace; natch. This is what I found in the depths of interfourm space http://pub26.bravenet.com/forum/static/sho...=1&cmd=show It is password protected but has no registration method that I could find and the last date appears to be 2005, which Is why I think it's a Mare Celest, drifting in cybperspace. Because I was unable to board, I figured I'd bring it in and see if any of our folks could get in or around the security.
  10. I can't picute Hank Rearden, John Galt or Friscon D'Anconia drinking latte, Hazelnot or things like that. Frisco might go for an expresso now and then but that's about it. If you're really crazy, try 100% Brazilian; that'll really check your premises down to the last nanobyte. I use a 5-cup rage pot. I like it because I can take it apart and clean every inch of it with SOS and a coffee pot brush. In the 1979-83 timeframe, I tried two drip machines. They were OK for the first few weeks and then needed cleaning. I followed the instructions and the coffee was still subpar. Also, I've not had a good cup from a drip machine in years. It's usually underdone. If you have a good cup then you don't need all that ladies' stuff, most of which overwhelms the taste of the coffiee. I've tried them all. I use Maxwell House Original. One coffie scoop for each cup. the proper temperature is 200 degrees F on a gas stove at about a medium setting which you can eyeball after a few times. You learn to tell when it's done by the smell; about 10 minutes of brewing timel. It's the closest I can get to the old time coffee from the 1950-85 timeframe before they started monkeying with it and telling us that 12 oz = a pound. This will be a real man's no agenda, no apologies, A is A, Good old USA cuppa coffiee, but it won't kill you. You really won't need any she-she stuff. Coffee was not meant for agenda-driven wusses anyway. If you want to tweak it a bit. mix Maxwell House Original with Maxwell House Rich in your coffee cannister. Occasionally I put a dash of cinnamon or ginger in when I prepare the cup. Sometimes I'll drop a scoop of venilla or if I can get it, French Vanilla ice cream on top If you like to grind and blend, look for Brazillian and Mexican or high altitude Columbian beans The Brazilians provide a sharpness and edge and the Mexican/Columbians have a lot of body but not much kick. Contrary to Juan Valdez. high altitude anything is a bit on the weak side What is significant about 200 degrees is that significantly lower than that and it's undercooked, significantly higher and it brews in bad-tasting oils.
  11. I don't know if the title of this thread is really accurate. though I can understand the sentiment. ONce you get the Objectivist bug. you kind of feel that any incorrect use of it is a personal infringement. From what I gather, Rick is a Mormon who has read AS and grew to like the characters. Did he make a commitment to the philosophy? none that I saw. He's like a lot of persons who read ATLAS SHRUGGED or THE FOUNTAINHEAD and doesn't get it all. Matt Allen WPRO 630 AM, Providence RI, 6-9 PM weeknights drives me up a wall He's constantly quoting from AS but says "We have to get back to a situation of a basic belief in God and family" a month after saying "We need a John Galt solution [to welfare; 'moochers and looters', and taxes]". Along with peddling some really loopy stuff like "mass consciousness" the crap that at room temperature Nutri-Sweet (aspertame) becomes formaldahyde and the Electormagnetic pulse (EMP) alarmism that Petr Beckmann disposed of two decades ago. Matt Allen IS a betrayal of Ayn Rand; trying to expropriate her ideas and mix them up with maudlin crapola. why the RI Objectivist organization hasn't told him to take a flying frak at a rolling donut, I don't know. Now we find that George Norry, successor to Art Bell, of Coast to Coast supports the free market. Just listen to that for a few nights and thatl'll make you wonder if the Democrats aren't right This program supports stuff that is mentally ill and ought be prohibited. He claems to have cured cancer by psychic menas which is an outright fraud. The presence of this kind of lunacy in major media markets lends a certain amount of popular credibility, of the sort that "it must be either true or substantially true or it wouldn't be on the air", to it and this stuff, if it takes, is dangerous. This deals not in just mis-information, but disinformation. Judging by Norry's tone of voice, he doens't believe hafl of it. It's like shouting "Fire" in a crowded theatre.
  12. BINGO!!! They were pushing c®ap and trade some year and a half ago, targetting 2009 for the do year I kept telling people the media don't take their orders from Moscow. Moscow takes their orders from them or as I put it "You must spill oceasn of ink before you spill rivers of blood". To see how long Bush was working the media for the Iraq war. This http://cockpit.spacepatrol.us/iraqnophobia.html Was up on my website by November of '02 and the story was getting old then
  13. Could be the 1980 one, they were so close together
  14. How can anyone be ANY kind of Christian with "GIVE us this day, our daily bread" as a major element of your belief system and be anything but antagonistic to Objectivism and the ideas, tone and spirt of AS and Capitalism? That's like being an atheist and affirming the Apostles' Creed To quote Rand; "[what kind of world is it] ...where man proposes but a ghost disposes?". How rational is it to believe that you live after you die [Hey Abbo-o-ott!]? Religion is inherently flawed by the Epistemology of Mysticism and the Metaphysicis of Supernaturalism; read angels, devils and other assorted ghosts and goblins. Yes, some theologies can be very logical and make sense. The Thomists are at the top of the list but the context kind of invalidates them Also that little phrase, aside from making man a metaphysical mendicant. MUST BE for the Christian, the blueprint for any or all of the incarnations of the Welfare State and therefore sets Christianity in direct opposition to Capitalism and by extension, Objectivism. And this is an absolute and necessary fact. To be a true, honest and knowing Christian is to be, by the Law of Identity, both of the above. As for being hard-assed, If you don't believe down to your bones that you have the right thing then don't bother; you're just a mushy moderate fit only to be a slave. I've been an Oist for 40 years, Why? Not because it looks cute. Because it's the right thing. I should know, I've seen it all and been some of it. It got me an A in Western Civ at Profidence College. It validated my sense of life, It boosted my IQ by 34 points. To me, that says it keeps its promise: in spades! I'm gonna ditch THAT? No way! I'd be an interstellar level, trans-dimensional dufus if I did. Objectivism is more than just a philosophical system. When it seats properly in a person's psyche, it brings with it personality traits that enhonce being a human person: The Will to understand, the drive to excellence, self-responsibility, the universe as comprehensible and usable and the ability to know just what you can and cannot do by being able to sort it out with intelligence and then expanding one's frontiers further out, doing tomorrow what you could not do today. And I had to get over the idea that capitlalism was backward-thinking and Scientific Socialism was the way to go. Scientific Socialism was somewhat egoistic in that it held that each benefited from the system by making it better for all. This was the Utilitarian contra-argument to the Utilitarian idea the Capitalism was the best system. This pre-dated Objectivism by decades and was the best thing going at the time. It placed an implicit positive value on the intellect and rationality. It was based on the idea that economics, like the natural sciences, was best implemented when Nam ran the show and that capitlalism left vital economic decisions to the whim of the irrational, unlearned or stupid. Now there can be, and have been alliances with Christians. This is possible because most Christians don't get the above. From The OBJECTIVIST NEWSLEETER: One can join with others on an ad hoc basis. As to activism Ayn Rand said that while she was an activist, it was not necessary or even good, for everyone to be (I think it was in the PLAYBOY interview with Alvin Toffler). EDITIED: I almost forgot. I do believe that Rick is correct when he says that some persons who claim to be Objectivists are simply latching on to it, consciously or unconsciously, to vent their anger at religion. Whin I see things here like "I'm against whatever relgion is for" or the like. I get that. Remember, religion supports the doctrine of absolutism in truth and morality: Are you against those? And I've seen it here as well as elsewhere That anger is usually an "illness" of the young; been there done that, and comes from the feeling of having been cheated or is just part of the process of "leaving the house" i.e. growing up, psychologically, most such do "make their peace with God". What is wrong with that simmering anger is that it's an unecessary waste of time, thought and feeling. Just salvage whatever is true, leave the false behind and be glad of the chance to have better. Otherwise, whatever will you do when you come across things that Objectivism has in common with religion and you don't have the right context to see the differences; like moral absolutism (which is probably why you fled religion), being quite doctrinnaire (which is probably why you fled religion) and the requirement of honesty (which is probably why you fled religion because it "cramped your style") and, of course Capitalism (I had to get over that one, too: Like I said "been there, done that")?
  15. Actually, they're not, it's just that we are shown more of the "evangelicals [creationism, 'young earth', millenialims, etc]" by the Establishment media to discredit capitlaism by associating it with the backward bumpkins. Most of the major churches are leftist in one way or the other. Catholics, Episcopalians, Lutherans, etc... with only a small percentage of Christians over on the right. The reason there is a conservative plurality in this country is that ideology is done on an ad hoc basis As to why, well the left has always been associated with atheism and atheists Just how deep is the conservatives' affinity to capitalism? http://cockpit.spacepatrol.us/endof.html Not very. When it clashes with religion. they'll throw it under the bus in a heartbeat. In fact. the Evangelicals did the hatchet job on Romney that set up NcCain who was so busy courting the left (media, eco's, et al) that Obama was the candidate of integrity. http://cockpit.spacepatrol.us/08feb.html
  16. As Obama does his thing. All the pundits scream "Socialism!". What we are seeing is not socialism. It is something else. What we are treated to is government control over nominally private propery. Where have we heard of that and in what context? Meanwhile we have Leonard Peikoff making a dichotomy between religion and socialism that does not exist: To say that x is better or worse then y means they are antagonistic to each other. This non-existent dichotomy would be readily understood by a simple survey of the history of religious utopias and utopianism and the increasing portward list of the mainline religions. These are readibly observable facts. Also a fact is that the "conservative" churches are supporting the characteristics that are more in line with what we support: Productivity, achievement and some primitive capitalism even with a nod in the direction of self-interest (all of which can only be temporary as the waw of Identity slowly does its work) whilst the mainline denominations have jointed the Nihilists as promotors of socialism. In reality, if you choose against socialism, you ally with one religious faction by default (since, at present, they produce better outcomes and do you really think we have the clout to take on both sides or the luxury of sitting this out?). If you choose for socialism, you ally with the Nihilists and the majority of religions. Do I have to tell you what they produce? Given the present state of things, this is of necessity. I have told you of what happened in the middle 1970's. Had we not done so. Reagan probably would not have won the election. What do you think the outcome of 4 more years of Jimmy Carter. who was an Elder in his church, would have been? And what would that have done for Objectivism? If you are under 35, this would be of special significance to you. In fact, socialism and religion are complementary to each other. It's just that things have not evolved to the point where that has kicked in entirely. Now in the sense that socialism is the economic system of what religion is the irreducible primary of, religion is "worse" but only in the reinforcive sense, not the antagonistic one but at this time that is not relevent. Rand said in CUI that in the nineteenth century, fledgeling capitlalism was said to promote atheism, which to me explains why clergy joined with the intellectuals and polititcians to create "Progressivism"/modern liberalism. I'd like to find that thread, we could probably use it. I love Peikoff dearly but to quote Carla from CHEERS "sometimes the hamster falls asleep in the wheel"
  17. True, but there are two sides to the coin of altruism, sacrifice. A quote I saw in an article in National Review from 1868 or 9 by Dr. Thomas Szas entitled "Psychiatry: Twin To Witchcraft". "....When you speak of sacrifice, you speak of masters and slaves, and there is no doubt who intends to be the master..." Please note that Obama's teleprompter told him to say that there were countries that had successful single-payer systems. When Gibbs was asked to name one, he came up dry. This leads to a question that when I ask liberals, I cann't get an answer and in many cases a concession that they cannot answer. The question is this "If monopolies are evel why are all the systems you support based on or inclusive of, government monopolies, especially given the track record of governments and their propensities to become oppressive?"
  18. The news media has made it clear that Obamedicine will "compete" with private medicine. Yet these gurus and guardians of the public intellect, who can read the minds of George Bush and other Repulbicans down to the nanobit seem almost pointedly unaware of certain things that would affect that "competition". The two banking crises of the last 30 years were caused by government. The first being the Savings and Loans and this last, which was caused by the Community Reinvestment Act. As part of the whole fiasco when the dominoes fell and knocked over AIG and GM. The government said they were "too big to allow to fail" and put is 2+ trillion dollars in the hole: for starters with the Federal Reserve throwing in another trillion unbeknownst to anyone but the sharp of eye and ear. Just watch reality's push-back for THAT. Does "rollerball" do it for you? I Caan hardley wait. The scenario is this. Obamedicine will drive the price of health care up further and will begin to fail. Will the government say that this white elephant is "too vital to fail" and print billions to throw into it? and what will that do to private insurance that has to earn it's bucks and to medical care in general. It's 1979 deja vu all over again. How come the media hasn't given this the ssame electron microscopic scrutiny that they give anythinag Republican that is the slightest bit fiscally responsible, which they parse out to Doubleprecision and usually lie about anyway, having cufustigated the issue beyond recognition? The silence is so deafening that one would think them in the tank on this.
  19. Yet, for some strange reason, they liked each other. In a 1979 show, the subject of religion came up and Phil asked the questioner "Whose god..." Rand said to him "That is why I like you" without limits, attributes, conditions or modification or any comment at all and he said he liked her. Now I can't picture her being so shallow as to let religion be the sole criterion of whom she liked or she would have preferred Leonid Brezhnev to Reverend Ike, whom she said she liked. or for that matter, she would have preferred Marx or Lenin to St. Thomas Aquinas. Now this is passing strange since in the middle 1980's Donahue took the Soviet side in the Nuclear Freeze, even working as a comrade of Vladimir Posner as a propagandist. Besides which he's got a 25 year reputation as being a looney leftist. His 75 degree list to port couldn not have happened overnightski after 1982.
  20. I've become aware of somethng that hasn't been addressed about this fiasco. an acquaintance of mine does not have cable and depends on over-the-air signal. For those who want to know the layout of the land, this is not on the fringe area of anything but in a good solid location. She is in Fall River MA at one of the highest locations near the top of President Avenue. This is two major markets, Boston, 50-60 miles away, and Providence, 15-25 miles away, depending on transmitter location. So we're not talking Mickey Mouseville here. Prior to the switch she had 15 channels 10 of which were, as we used to say in CB, beaudacious. Now she gets about 6 of them with their associatated ".x"'s which comes to about 9. Here's the kicker; only about 2 or 3 have strong, reliable signals that don't depend on the weather or are not just plain crappy; always dropping out or having to be futzed around with. The only fix appears to be to spand $300-$400 for a good roof antenna or get cable which she cannot really afford. How much of this have you heard about in the media? Probably not much. If I didn't know the person, I'd have not heard anything at all about this kind of thing. We all know that this was a government-foist...er..created program, right? If somepne put this in a science fiction story, they'd be condemned for laying it on too thick. You can't make this kind of stuff up and be credible as a sci-fi writer. You'd think that with 3 years in the making the techs on the broadcast end of it would have it right or it would be a no-go. This is behaving like something that not only has not been tested experimentally and in beta, but is by nature not doable. Who designed this system? Art Bell? Psychic Buddies? MUFON? This could really stand a good conspiracy theory...Lemme see. the Oil Compaines, Freemasons and Rush Limbaugh got together and...Nope too realistic. How about Dick Cheney, Osama Bin Laden and the Tooth Fairy (representing the Dental Establishment)...Now you're talking! Moving right along: About Government health care?....
  21. Well, gee, how many teleprompters do you know with degrees in meteorology? Back in 2000 the apocalyptoids were saying that global warming would cause droughts, it being that there were several droughts going on at the time. Let's see, it causes droughts then excessive rain. I voted for it then I voted against it. Fire is searing heat but it feels sooooo cool. I have a feeling, Toto not only are we not in Kansas, we ain't even in a sane part of the Universe. I think we took a wrong turn at the Crab Nebula or y'know that stuff we was smokin'? I think it kicked in (and this last is the origin of Environmentalism anyway).
  22. From 1935 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz1AHjN27xU Even before the first Flash Gordon serial In fact, why not give you the access page to all the fun & games stuff I have? http://www.console.spacepatrol.us/funstuff.html New you'll see why I call my media storage site "Media-zilla" since I've saved most of this material to my site in case it goes away from YouTube or Internet Archive
