Mathematicians can do whatever they need to do, they just should not claim to be physicists or meta-physicists by making assertions of what exists. It is not the case that everything that can be thought of necessarily exists. That applies even to rigorously self-consistent mathematical systems, not just pink elephants and unicorns.
