Michael Steele becomes RNC Chairman

The Republicans announced their choice for a new Chairman, Michael Steele. This guy represents more of the same from Republicans: heavy-handed religiosity in policy and wishy-washy economics that are defended not on principle, but as being practical for the country. This is no surprise. All their talk of reform, and it amounts to zilch.

I wonder if him being black has anything to do with it…No, I’m sure it doesn’t. :dough:

The new RNC chairman is actually pretty solid in this interview. Judging by what I’ve seen from him so far, he’s certainly a step in the right direction.

Do you have any examples of his “heavy-handed religiosity”?

Here he delivers the Weekly Republican Address. It’s equally solid.

He recently wrote to all the Republicans in Congress, requesting that they vote against both the current and all future spending bills. Also, he’s been speaking out about how the GOP needs to be more accepting of people who are in favor of abortion and gay rights. Apparently he’s Roman Catholic, but I’ve never heard him mention God, Jesus, or religion in general for that matter. I loved the uncompromising statement made in his acceptance speech: “If you wish to obstruct… get ready to be knocked over!”

I’m probably setting myself up for disappointment now, but.. wow, I actually like this man.

This article is just pathetic.

Chairman Michael S. Steele plans an “off the hook” public relations offensive to attract younger voters, especially blacks and Hispanics, by applying the party’s principles to “urban-suburban hip-hop settings.”

It sounds like totally superficial pandering. “Democrats appeal to minorities and young techies so I guess let’s feign some approximation of that”. He makes many comments referring to what to appeal to, but doesn’t suggest any actual ideas. If this is what to expect from their new leadership I don’t expect Republicans to be relevant again any time soon.
