The election might as well be over, the Republicans are out of power for at least four years, so what will happen to the Party of God now?
Can they change to offer an alternative to Obama in 4 years, and if so, where would the new blood come from? (is it Giuliani, is it Bloomberg, Ron Paul, or someone else?)
Is there a chance they will be completely destroyed in the next four years, as the corruption scandals and hearings will no doubt be rolling in now that the democrats have a huge majority in Congress?
The Democrats have had a majority in both houses of Congress for two years. Where are the hearings now? Why wait untill the Messiah is in office? I think they will be busy sucking the cash out of our pockets for a while, at least.
As to the GOP, time will tell. There is no way at this point to predict what will happen in four years.
If the past is any indication, the Dems will lose seats in the mid-term elections, just as they did under Clinton. Especially if they go on a tax/spend frenzy. People tend to vote with thier wallets.

I doubt that. They will suffer substantially, but they will survive as the other party in a 2-party system. To survive as a brand, they will assimilate even more of the mainstream liberal ideas that used to typify the donkey party.
What they should do is form an actual philosophy of government and campaign on the basis of an actual philosophy. One would hope that that philosophy would be in the direction of minimal government interference in people’s lives, but they betrayed that position and I don’t see how they could be politically credible if they admit “Boy did we make a huge mistake”. Although it would be refreshing.

I can’t imagine them looking past Reagan and finding their roots (remember the primaries, when everyone claimed to be the new Reagan) , so most likely it would have to be someone new, starting a movement from scratch. Why couldn’t that movement at some point break away and form a third party? Even with a hundred seats in the House, and a few in the Senate, that party would have huge power, and as a result start receiving contributions from serious donors, to mount a real election campaign in 2012.
