Objectivism Is The Everyman's Philosophy
In the universe, what you see is what you get,
figuring it out for yourself is the way to happiness,
and each person's independence is respected by all

Why isn't there more writing on the base of O'ism?

By RationalEgoistSG,
I am currently re-reading Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand, and I am fully realizing that Objectivist metaphysics really establish a good foundation for everything that follows.
In the majority of philosophical disputes that I've had with others concerning ethics, politics, and aesthetics, the fundamental disagreement has almost always come from differing views of metaphysics and epistemology.
I believe that Objectivist metaphysics and epistemology firmly establish the corre
Human Relations

By John,
I'm so glad I'm in a technical school and don't have to put up with many classes like this but it still bothers me. The first thing we learned about was self-esteem and how we get it:
Shouldn't self esteem come from the self. Why would other people make a difference.
Now we are learning about motivation and how as leaders we have to "wear a pathway" to motivate people to do what we want them to do. We can do this through fear or acting nice.
This is what I think. Self-este
Chrissycrunch

By Chrissycrunch,
I am a 33 year old Bostonian and discovered Objectivism about 8 years ago. I am lucky to have a boyfriend who is also an Objectivist. I work in the social services field (difficult being an Objectivist and working with Socialists!) and have three cats.
Survival and Pleasure #2

By Gabriel,
I'm starting a new thread, so it's easier to follow.
I, accidentaly, made several points in one post:
1. Pleasure is subjective, meaning that the interpretation of something as being pleasurable depends on one's individuality. I also do not think there is such a thing as "objective pleasure". Any "objective sensation" as such. Sensations in themselves do not have to conform to reality. They ARE reality. Sensations are NOT man-made, because they are automatic responses, just like emotions.
Me

By suv,

Hey,
I'm Suv from India. I stumbled upon Ayn Rand, when I was 15, in the midst of what I now know as "psycho-epistemological" confusion, caused by reading philosophers of the mystic-altruistic axis, and trying to reconcile their words to my conception of reality. ( They actually mean this is what I told myself...and paid a heavy price...last time I was trying to "understand"- 'The world is an illusion' )
I'm 19 now, and much happier, I play professional soccer, and would like to visit US
"Forthcoming calendar events" feature

By AshRyan,

Hi board users, some of you may have noticed that last week I activated a board feature called "Forthcoming calendar events" which you can see at the bottom of the main forum page, in the board statistics area. The way it works is that if there is an event coming up, you can enter it in the board calendar (the link for which is at the top of the page on the right side), and that event will be announced in the "Forthcoming calendar events" area some specified number of days in advance. For inst
Many of you know me already...

By danielshrugged,
Many of you already know me from the conference and/or the OAC. Just thought I'd announce my presence to this forum. And I simply must congratulate David on his websites. Fancy stuff!
For those who do not know me, I will be going into my second year at the OAC, and I run the St. John's College Objectivist Club in Annapolis, Maryland.

Incoherent rant on the O'ist ethics.

By Gabriel,
Let me clarify some of my remarks made in the Homosexuality thread... (this is not the essay I'm working on)
Objectivism teaches us to live life qua man, which implies surviving (staying alive) and living out one's nature.
It is my oppinion that "one's nature" has 2 components: the common nature of all humans, and the particular nature which arises from one's own context (I am male, I have ~this~ life experience, I have ~this~ education, etc)
As far as the common nature goes, I'd say
Objectivist Summer Conference 2003

By AshRyan,
I'm sure most of you are already aware of this event. I was just wondering if anyone here will be attending. It would be good to meet some of you in person.
Why are people still confused about "selfishness"?

By AshRyan,
People commonly regard Nietzschean "egoism" and altruism as polar opposites. However, the two moral codes were explicitly integrated by Hitler in Nazi Germany--and are in fact, though not explicitly, integrated in every dictatorship that exists, and by every action performed in accordance with either code of morality (the very concept of sacrifice implies the questions "of whom?" and "for whom?"), because they are actually the same code.
How can anyone have any illusions left about altruis
