  1. Now that one "I get" and I like! That is one of my favorite political sound bites of all time. The scream at the end is classic.
  2. I somehow doubt that Atlas Shrugged could be developed into a Happy Meal toy, and if so, then Hollywood is worse than I thought. I don't doubt that plenty of money is made on movies, but Hollywood and music producers have been crying about how CD sales and movie ticket sales are down and insist on blaming the internet and everyone else for their woes when we all know it's because they're, for the most part, producing junk that is out of touch w/ the average American's values. I certainly hope that a bunch of Hollywood liberals can do AS justice and I know they can, I just doubt they will.
  3. Actually, no, they don't. I highly suspect that's why box office receipts have been on the decline in recent years. I know they can make a good movie, but I have doubts that they will. I certainly hope they prove me wrong.
  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_bison Nope, you weren't duped. They are commonly referred to as buffalo even though it's not technically correct. I just thought it was an interesting bit of trivia when I learned of the differences, so I thought I'd pass it along. Buffalo burgers are good too and have less fat than chicken.
  5. I just learned this since moving to Colorado, but they're not buffalo (there are no buffalo in the US) they're bison.
  6. First, I'm not a brother, I'm a girl! Second, a yes or no answer would have sufficed, but thank you for all the detailed information.
  7. I went to the Danny Dietz Memorial (one of the dead Seals from the aforementioned story) on July 4th in Littleton. It was quite moving. I found it very emotional because I believe he would be alive today if it weren't for our country's fouled up rules of engagement. The thought of this wonderful young man and highly trained Navy Seal's life being wasted over political correctness literally made me cry.
  8. Just for the record, I don't consider us warmongers. I was pondering what others may think of the United States. Just wanted to clarify.
  9. Needless to say, I hope, I knew nothing about airport bathroom "activities" before all of this happened. I read the following Q&A about it (can you believe they have a Q&A about this??) and based on the police interview transcripts, I don't think the officer was incorrect. Just my opinion though. http://www.slate.com/id/2173033/ Unfortunately, this is more information than most people would ever want to know; however, it may keep a few of you guys out of trouble in airport restrooms...particularly if you are innocently relieving yourself.
  10. If I register, will I be able to listen to the interview? (I don't want to register for that website unless I have to.)
  11. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070831/D8RC2AA00.html If the moronic politicians in Washington hadn't demanded more lenders offer mortgages to people with bad credit, we wouldn't be in this situation now. Now Washington wants to interfere some more!? "On Friday, Bush planned to: - Urge Congress to pass legislation that would give the Federal Housing Administration more flexibility in assisting mortgage holders with subprime mortgages. - Pledge to work with Congress to reform the tax code to help troubled borrowers rework their loans. - Call for rigorously enforcing predatory lending laws and strengthening lending practices." Let's all hope none of this government expansion happens...well, except tax code reform, but they're not serious about that, as we all know.
  12. That's what I assumed, but you know what they say about assuming. It seems to me that if a corporation was distributing a product that was hurting or killing its customers, word would get out and it would ruin them in a few ways, if not more. First, there would be lawsuits and second, people would stop buying their products. I guess a company could do that, but I'm not sure it would be wise or beneficial to them.

    Spore

Wow! I haven't played video games since the days of Atari and Nintendo, but that makes me want to get involved again.
  14. Welcome to the forum! Here are my short answers, but I'm sure some others will come up w/ some more thorough responses for you. 1.) No, corporations have no responsibility to anyone other than their shareholders. 2.) No, not unless they want to, voluntarily 3.) I think I need an example...I'm not sure I understand the question. 4.) They can offer them if they want, but they should not be forced to (I'm in the financial services biz and if there is a market for those types of funds, rest assured, they will be created. There already are some socially conscious funds out there...cater to Christians and Environmentalists ,etc., but I'm not sure how popular they are or how well they perform. I stay away from the trendy stuff.)
  15. I think I understand what you're both getting at. They hate us because they think we're all a bunch of greedy, war mongers. But on the other hand our wealth and military might has brought much of the world peace and prosperity. I think many foreigners hate us because they see us a spoiled brats who try to impose our way on everyone else, yet they are somewhat envious and appreciative of that as well. (They want their cake and want to eat it too.) Is that the gist of it?
  16. http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainme...=22&sp=true I think this is awful and irresponsible. While I agree that the war in Iraq is not helping us win the war on terror, I completely disagree with condemning all of our military men and women for the actions of a few. Granted, I have not seen this movie, but it sounds to me like he's making a case against our military, and any war for that matter, based on the actions of a few criminals. Hollywood makes me sick. (And people wonder why I don't go to the movies more often??)
  17. That's if you choose to sit in a jam; however, I intentionally live not far from my office and the speed limit most of the way is 75 mph, so it feels pretty liberating to fly down the highway listening to some good rock-n-roll music. When there is bad traffic, it's usually due to snow, ice or heavy rain, so I wouldn't recommend a being on a bicycle. When I lived in Houston, if you were to take a bike to work to avoid traffic, you would be stinky, sweaty and unpopular at the office, and you would probably be hit and killed by some crazy guy driving his dually to his desk job. I never understood why anyone would drive a farm/work truck to an office job, but to each his own. You never know what kind of crazy stuff you'll see in Texas, that's for sure!
  18. Uh, I prefer not to ride a bike all the way to Texas to visit family for the holidays. Perhaps you consider me a slave to convenience, air conditioning or heat and cushy leather seats? If so, slave I am! I will also be a slave to my SUV this long, holiday weekend when I drive it up to Guinellas Pass for some high country camping! Yahoo!
  19. Welcome, Randall! Ft. Benning...isn't that where jump school is located? If so, have you been or do you plan to go? Just curious.
  20. Hello and welcome! Don't forget about the library and used books. I found two copies of AS and one of TF at a flea market for less than $2 each. They looked like they had never been read. Also, here is a link of suggested reading from ARI. http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pag...ctivism_sugread If you register (which is free), they will email you great articles and mail you free stuff.
  21. I hope so. Let him suffer in his own "rape cage" for awhile.
  22. Well at least she sounded more polished and practiced. I guess that's good???
