K-Mac
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070831/D8RC2AA00.html If the moronic politicians in Washington hadn't demanded more lenders offer mortgages to people with bad credit, we wouldn't be in this situation now. Now Washington wants to interfere some more!? "On Friday, Bush planned to: - Urge Congress to pass legislation that would give the Federal Housing Administration more flexibility in assisting mortgage holders with subprime mortgages. - Pledge to work with Congress to reform the tax code to help troubled borrowers rework their loans. - Call for rigorously enforcing predatory lending laws and strengthening lending practices." Let's all hope none of this government expansion happens...well, except tax code reform, but they're not serious about that, as we all know. softwareNerd
All these government actions punish those who acted sensibly. The government wants to bail out people who got into a mess (through ignorance or through evasion)... and the burden of doing so will be borne by all. The longer term message from the government is that it might be cost-effective to get oneself into something of a mess. The government will do something like Bush's proposing. That's almost certain. The Democrats want to do more.
gags
The government will do something like Bush's proposing. That's almost certain. The Democrats want to do more. Isn't this the way it always seems to go? The idiot Republicans are worse than the Democrats when it comes to this sort of thing. They open the door to government intervention and then the Dems push them along and aggravate a bad situation. Of course this type of proposal is never challenged or even questioned for that matter. If a large enough group finds itself in trouble, responsible individuals are always called upon to sacrifice themselves to the collective. It's for the common good.... gags
So I take it your proposed solution is to vote Democrat? No, in the 2008 Presidential election I'll look at the candidates and choose the best one without much regard for party affiliation. In the last couple of Presidential races it has been essentially a choice between shit and garbage. I hope 2008 will be better.

gags
I'm probably being naive.

The way I decide is if the garbage is recycled, I vote for shit. Whereas if it is brand new landfill garbage then it gets my vote.
Capitalism Forever
I hope 2008 will be better. I'm afraid it will be worse. (But, to keep things in perspective, it will still be much better than in any Western European country.)
