softwareNerd
Usually, OO.net's Chat has just a few folks in it. Every now and then, though, there can be 8 or more people (we had 15 last night) and the multiple threads of conversation can be hard to follow. A new "room" can be opened in chat by typing /join roomname. For instance, if a few people want to discuss Plato, if one of them types "/join plato", a new "room" will show up as a new tab. Anyone else typing "/join plato" will also see that tab. A private conversation with one other member is simpler: click on the member's name in the list of people who are in chat, and a new tab will open for those two people to have a conversation. Yesterday, some members suggested that we have two default rooms, rather than one. We have one called "Lobby". I've created a second default one named "Objectivism". (We could have a naming contest!) The idea is that if Chat is really busy and some folk want to discuss some topic and not have it interleaved with other discussions, then there's a separate tab that makes it easier to follow. Having a second tab open by default means that people don't have to go through the bother of deciding on a name and telling everyone else, including newcomers who join chat later. Mammon
It's a good idea, but having a lot of windows opened at the same time makes the chat kind of laggy as well. Would it be migated if people were in different rooms?
Tenure
Can we call it the 'Smoking Room', in reference to the heated debate, as well as the nature of gentlemen retiring to the smoking room to debate subjects? Also, something cool I just realised on the forum today: if you post a reply, and then post another reply after that, the forum automatically merges them. I like this a lot. JMeganSnow
Can we call it the 'Smoking Room', in reference to the heated debate, as well as the nature of gentlemen retiring to the smoking room to debate subjects? I didn't think this was actually called the smoking room. Usually it was just called the parlor, or the lounge, while the ladies' parlor was referred to as the drawing room. Also, something cool I just realised on the forum today: if you post a reply, and then post another reply after that, the forum automatically merges them. I like this a lot. Other people find it annoying. It's one of those "you can't win 'em all" things.
Bold Standard
It's a good idea, but having a lot of windows opened at the same time makes the chat kind of laggy as well. Would it be migated if people were in different rooms? Could it be possible to split the screen so that you can have both chats open at the same time? What does "migated" mean? Prometheus98876
Does Mammon mean mitigated perhaps? Split the screen? Sounds interesting, but what if you want to see say 3, four or more chats at once?
