redmartian89
I am Michael. My ulitmate goal is to be a self-employed astronautical engineer working on the first Martian settlements. I have been interested in Objectivism since about 3 years ago. Over the summer I read Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged.
Chops
Hello and welcome to the boards! What kind of work have you done/researched to get Mars settlement going? Do you work in the field already?
redmartian89
Hello and welcome to the boards! What kind of work have you done/researched to get Mars settlement going? Do you work in the field already? Thank you. I am in high school right now, and I am going to work toward an engineering degree. I have read about all the books I can on engineering, space colonization and Mars proposals (so far, I'm up to about a dozen books).

If you have not done so already, I recommend reading The Case for Mars by Robert Zubrin.
Prometheus98876
Welcome to the forum! Oh, well that is a interesting ambition, and very bold. I hope you have at least some success. I dont really know much about the field, so I'm not sure I could accurately predict how much you can expect. But keep us updated as much as you can please. TheEgoist
That is certainly a lofty dream. It's good to see young people with original dreams. So many kids just want to grow up and become doctors or lawyers now....Oh crap, wait...
redmartian89
If you have not done so already, I recommend reading The Case for Mars by Robert Zubrin. I read it first 2 yrs ago and again last fall. I really liked it. I also read his other book Entering Space. Very good book also. But keep us updated as much as you can please. Currently, I am working on a design concept for a small base and attempting to figure out funding strategies: so far media rights and advertising are my main thoughts, although if I work toward smaller goals, such as self-sufficient life support or agri-domes, those could be more money-makers. Thanks for the encouragement.
