haystack
See the story here. pizza drivers seek national union I saw this today and just had to shake my head in disbelief. Most people will probably think this is a great idea, not give it a second thought because they don't deliver pizzas and want to be sympathetic to the plight of the lowly pizza delivery driver (PDD). Stop the insanity! Being a PDD is a temporary job., not a carrer except, of course, for the new PDD union head (who won't be delivering pizzas). This will have far reaching consequences to most homes in America if this happens. The first is an increased cost of product passed onto consumers to pay higher wages, health care, union dues, whatever. The second is an overall reduction in total number of current national PDD numbers AKA less jobs. Smart! This will, in turn, force people who use delivery service to pick up their own pizza, opt for another type of food or, perhaps, cook their own food, further decreasing the need for PDDs. If they do happen to use the PDD service offered by the restaurant, they will probably think twice about giving the driver a tip due to the fact that the food plus service total now costs more. This scenario effectivly negates the reasoning of the union in the first place, to increase wages for all. PDDs will make more per hour, but will get less tips. Also they will pay more taxes due to more compensation being reported to the IRS. What service industry employee correctly reports all their tip earnings? As most here know, this will lead to only the Union cheifs getting fat, not the lowly PDD it is supposed to help.
Yes
I read that the Pizza Drivers rejected the union. *thumbsup!* Unions have long since overstayed their welcome in the workplace, serving only as gangsters and costing us employers and business owners lots of money.
