The church used to be called Central Church ... we called it the Close Encounters Church because it looked like the mother ship from Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Google Map image; click on hybrid view), especially at night. It was the only place in SE Memphis where you could seat over a thousand people, so that's where my high school graduation ceremony was held. What a shame.
