Objectivism Is The Everyman's Philosophy
In the universe, what you see is what you get,
figuring it out for yourself is the way to happiness,
and each person's independence is respected by all
-
Rand's Philosophy in Her Own Words
- "Metaphysics: Objective Reality" "Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed/Wishing won’t make it so." "The universe exists independent of consciousness"
- "Epistemology: Reason" "You can’t eat your cake and have it, too." "Thinking is man’s only basic virtue"
- "Ethics: Self-interest" "Man is an end in himself." "Man must act for his own rational self-interest" "The purpose of morality is to teach you[...] to enjoy yourself and live"
- "Politics: Capitalism" "Give me liberty or give me death." "If life on earth is [a man's] purpose, he has a right to live as a rational being"

Rand's later years
By TheCerebro,
I'm sort of new to Objectivism, and have a [big] question about Ayn Rand.
Why was Nathienal Brandon removed from the Objectivist movement? Why did he have an affair with Rand, and what was the thinkning on both of their parts? Why didn't their affair last/work? What was Ayn Rand like [as a person] in her later year after that?
What are space and time?
By RationalEgoistSG,
My posted topic on Kant's argument about space and time, as well as my reading of his Critique of Pure Reason has intrigued me. I am curious as to whether or not we can say that space and time are entities in reality, or that they are relations between objects that we measure, or that we must agree with Kant and say that space and time exist in the mind only.
I am currently inclined to say that space and time are measurements between objects in reality, thus being another example of a thir
Hopefuly this is Trend over in Iraq...
By Praxus,
"In Falluja, a reporter for the Associated Press saw cars carrying the dead and wounded from the Abdul-Aziz al-Samarrai mosque, following the US air strike.
A US Marine colonel said his troops attacked the mosque complex after being fired on from inside it.
"
Quote taking from BBC News.
This sends a powerful message, if you fire on us, it doesn't matter where you are, we are going to kill you and anyone around you.
U.S. Convoy in Iraq Attacked
By Invictus,
Article
This event makes all to clear what we're up against in Iraq. The twisted and barbaric creed that is prevalent in the Middle East has resulted in a people who are capable of such reckless hate. I don't see how we can view this conflict as anything but an ideological war. Sure, putting a few bullets in the heads of the people responsible for this monstrous act is a first step, but to end terrorism altogether we must end that which hath given it life: Islam. How we go about this I am n
Jameson and Wynand
By Tom,
[Note: Jameson is the editor of a sensationalist newspaper in Spiderman]
In another thread, Isaac said:
> Anyone else ever notice that the character of Jameson is completely based on
> Gail Wynand?
Jameson ruled.
They're similar because they're instantiations of a Nietzschean will-to-power and are reminscent of William Randolf Hearst, so Stan Lee might not even know who Ayn Rand is.
Need help: Living wage problem
By Samoht,
My sociology teacher (actually it is a Family Structure class) has sent out an email asking for help in doubling the wage of tomato pickers in Florida. The email came out today, and I know that she is going to bring up the topic tomorrow. What I want is some well thought out arguments using objectivism in opposition of people being paid more because they are too incompetent to find other employment. Below is the website asking for people to publicly speak out against the incompetent making le
Progressive Ticketing/Fines
By Old Geezer,
The rich are being fined more for violations of the law
The goals of punishment are different than the goals of taxation.
It can be argued that progressive taxation is immoral because it punishes the producer of wealth.
But a punishment must effect the perpetrator in such a way as to have a detterrent effect. it must also pass the litmus test for justice;
what are the moral and legal ramifications of progressive punishment?
The practicality of capitalism
By Invictus,
The following is a response I delivered to various inane comments about capitalism made on a leftist forum.
--------------------------------------------
The above comments make abundantly clear the limited research this board’s members have done into to the theories they claim to follow and those they claim detest. For the benefit of those who have been hoodwinked into following socialism I have but together a brief piece on the practical implications of capitalism.
Free the World
By Invictus,
Those wanting to find how their country fairs in terms of economic freedom may do so at Free the World. It is a branch of the Fraser institute dedicated specifically to measuring and promoting economic freedom.
Their latest report put Honk Kong (still rated as a country) at number one, followed by Singapore and the United States. The bottom five nations are Guinea-Bissau, Algeria, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Myanmar.
Critic this...
By Jason W,
I know this is basically what happens in Atlas, but I can't form the right reply or problems with it at the moment.
Got it off another forum, by the way...
