  1. Yes, apparently there aren't too many of us around. I actually live about an hour outside of the city.
  2. There are times when I was younger that I wished there was a god so he could do favors for me, but I'm much more comfortable knowing there isn't one. Amen!
  3. I am currently a full-time student as well as a Client Sales Associate at a local bank.
  4. "Unions are suited for occupations that are vulnerable to job market flooding. To wit: jobs that trained monkeys could do." I am not sure where I picked this quote up; however, I think it's wity...
  5. Hm...I began to become incrediulous of God's existence in the first grade. I remember sitting in my Catholic School classroom listening to the nun explain to us that God was always watching us and had a plan for all of our lives. She then opened up her lecture to class questions. All of the other kids said things like "God wants me to be a good Christain," or "God wants me to be a doctor," etc. However, I made a statement that sounded something like "I think our lives are just books and we are writing our own endings and God has our stories stacked up in his library..." When the nun reacted adversely to this statement (she pulled me, literally, out of my seat and made me do pennance...then she called my mom and told her she had raised a junior heretic!!!! ) This was my last day, ever, in Catholic School...Later in my life, I would reflect upon this experience when questioning the validity, first of organized religion and eventually, the validity of an omniscient "God." Eventually, I came to the conclusion that man is the only person responsible for his well-being and destiny and for one to place blame on a higher being is a great sign of weakness...
  6. To be completely honest, yes I only view the scientific aspects...I have made an attempt at regarding spirituatlity; however, I find it difficult. (I'm very overanalyitical). Furthermore, I have studied Judaisim, Christianity, and Buddism. I have never read the book of which you speak, but, perhaps the spiritual aspect is psychological? I am not sure I would have to read it. Happy running, by the way!! I used to be a terrible runner; but, I assure you that it gets easier!
  7. I believe styles2112 has already conceded this point. Why do you choose to continue trying to explain it after he has admitted his error? sorry, I must have overlooked his recantation...
  8. I am sorry, I wasn't sure where to place this... This is just something that I have been pondering the last few days: "Does being an individual make one a conformist?" I am just curious to what everyone else thinks before I formulate my own opinion!!! (Ok, ok...I am being fasticious...)
  9. Me too...Furthermore, I agree that theism is not supported by Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism. One should always seek to question everything. Moreover, I am very knowledgeable of Christian Doctrine. After several years of Catholic School (I was kicked out...but, that is another story!! ), I have questioned all that I have learned and concluded that it (theism) is illogical. Furthermore, I have conducted research on several other religions and have found substantial flaws in all of their claims. (Sorry about all of the background, I just wanted to add validity to my claim...if anyone feels the need for clairification, please don't hesitate to ask).
  10. Yeah...that eventually was one of the key contributors to the unwraveling of our relationship as well. (Honestly, the boy was a pseudo-socialist Catholic and I am a Capitalist Athiest how could we not disagree!) But, I secretly love having someone to debate with!
  11. I had never really listened to Rush; however, most recently I have begun to sample some of their music. To anyone who is at all interested in listening to them, I recomend hearing "Free Will." In my opinion, it sums up their music and correlates very well with Rand's philosophies.
  12. Sorry, I don't normally make fun of things as unimportant as spelling errors (duel/dual), but this one was too good of a pun to pass up. Oops!! Thank you for catching that!
  13. Hello. I am so glad to have found this forum. Obviously, I am a huge fan of Ayn Rand and her theory of Objectivism. I am a college sophomore from Western PA. Currently, I have a duel major in English and Political Science and a minor in History. During the summers, I intern at a local bank. (Obviously, I am exceedingly indecisive; however, at least I am ambitious). Well, I just wanted to say hello to everyone and share a little bit about myself! I look forward to participating in this forum. -Laura
