  1. Thank you Todd, you have added a lot of happiness to my life.
  2. Starship Troopers (the movie) wasn't even originally called that. It was originally a movie called "Bug Hunt". At some point they realized it was superficially similar to Starship troopers, and changed the title and character names. There is a vast divergence between the original book and film. A report in an American Cinematographer article around the same time as the film's release states the Heinlein novel was optioned well into the pre-production period of the film, which had a working title of Bug Hunt at Outpost Nine; most of the writing team reportedly were unaware of the novel at the time. According to the DVD commentary, Paul Verhoeven never finished reading the novel, claiming he read through the first few chapters and became both "bored and depressed."[6] Starship Troopers
  3. That's fine, but make sure you go into it knowing that much of what Branden claims is demonstrably false, and most of the rest is wildly out of character according to practically everyone who isn't a Branden.
  4. I think her reply would be that it is the truth, and the truth can never be offensive or some such. Unfortunately for her, her hit piece has very little relation to the truth. I highly recommend "The Passion of Ayn Rand's Critics" for anyone wanting to investigate further. I am a little surprised you ever read Rand after watching the movie first.
  5. It is a revolting mixture of slander and softcore porn. Watch at your own peril. Actually, every single person in the film is portrayed as a whim-worshiping hedonistic idiot.
  6. Furthermore, what is intrinsically evil about full-auto firearms?
  7. I don't disagree that this is a possibility, I just don't think it is the conscious motivator for anything other than a slim minority.
  8. I thought it was a pretty solid movie. I enjoyed the experience from start to finish. The new more serious direction that Bond is taking is great. It isn't full of stupid puns and gimmicky gadgets. I do have a few qualms with the movie though. The grand plot of the evil villain is to sell overpriced water in a backward third world country? Lame. The camera work during the fight scenes that cuts wildly every 4 frames got irritating. This trend is disturbingly prevalent, so it isn't a specific slight against this movie though.
  9. I really don't think that is the motivation for the majority of people. In fact, I would guess that it is a tiny majority that have consciously thought about purchasing guns for the purpose of shooting at government agents. However, it probably is a higher number than any time in recent history.
  10. I found one more that was too good to pass up: "My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, 1 gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns." --Barack Obama, VPC Fund Raiser 2007
  11. I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry. From Promise to Power, by David Mendell, p.250-251 Aug 14, 2007 Let's be honest. Mr. Keyes does not believe in common gun control measures like the assault weapons bill. Mr. Keyes does not believe in any limits from what I can tell with respect to the possession of guns, including assault weapons that have only one purpose, to kill people. I think it is a scandal that this president did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban. Illinois Senate Debate #3: Barack Obama vs. Alan Keyes Oct 21, 2004 Not surprisingly, Obama supports the gun ban in the nation's capital, saying the "DC handgun law is constitutional." James Oliphant and Michael J. Higgins, "Court to hear gun case," Chicago Tribune, November 20, 2007. bama has also taken a strong position in favor of the Clinton semi-auto ban which sunset in 2004. "I believe we need to renew -- not roll back -- this common sense gun law," Obama said. John Chase, "Keyes, Obama are far apart on guns; Views on assault weapons at odds," Chicago Tribune, September 15, 2004 http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20080419/pl_politico/9722 I can find lots more if anyone isn't persuaded.
  12. Yes he has campaigned against firearms. Two specific issues that he mentioned during the campaign were re-instating the "assault weapons" ban, and banning concealed carry nation-wide. Prior to the campaign, he also worked extensively to outlaw guns.
  13. I've been getting some PMs asking for advice on purchases. Please feel free to message me with any questions you have if you don't want to post in this thread.
  14. During the 1994 AWB, items made before the bill passed were still legal to own and sell. The bill simply prohibited production of new "scary" weapons and magazines. This artificial cap on supply made prices skyrocket, sometimes to 10x or more what the item cost previously. The government saying "you can't own this" is a powerful marketing tool on the American psyche.
  15. I put together quite a selection of likely to be banned stuff before the election. I got one 20" AR-15, and three stripped lower receivers. They are the part that legally is the gun, and you can probably find one for $100-$125. You can complete the rifle at your leisure, but the important part is you own it now. I got a Winchester SX2 shotgun, and bought a +5 magazine extension for it. I also bought 40 AR-15 magazines, and 4 Glock 20 magazines.
  16. I like it more than anything they have done since the black album, but that isn't saying much. I may like it better than the black album, which would be saying more.
  17. You have lost a great many things if the first case is true (which of course it is) you have lost all the time you spent pretending to believe in a fictitious monster. Furthermore, by accepting this sort of arbitrary assertion (with accompanying farcical morality) you have lost the sanctity of your own mind. You have lost the ability to live life to its fullest.
  18. I find it hard to fault Mr. Fawn. The bison had repeatedly damged his property. The Bison owner knew about the damage, and chose not to correct the situation anyway. By doing so, he forced Mr. Fawn to put an end to the problem himself.
  19. I got an autographed copy of Infidel when NTOS got free tickets to see her speak for its members. She was incredible to watch in person.
  20. We got one of our friends certified for free through ULC and he presided over a ceremony we wrote.
  21. I suspect, but am not certain, that my dogs occasionally try to trade with me. Sometimes when I have something they really want, they will bring a bone drop it at my feet and wait expectantly. A fundamental requirement to claiming rights is the ability to respect the rights of others. No animal is remotely capable of this. Imagine the aburdity if "animal rights" were granted. If they had rights, they would be have to be held responsible for violating the rights of others. You would have to take birds to court for tresspassing, and squirrels to court for chewing your attic wiring.
  22. I think the ideal solution is just for the government to get out of the way and let the farmers deal with their own problems. I can empathize with this, because nearby urbanites view my area as "the country" and so set their beloved fido "free to live in the wild" near me. The dogs of course end up getting hit by cars or starving. In the mean time, it sounds like the Fries need to learn the 3 S rule. Shoot Shovel Shut up It is a simple formula to fix problems and not have to deal with pesky government interference.
  23. I can see it on the horizon from the road next to my house. In fact, if you can see the new one and the old one from a hill next to my house. The new stadium is huge and pretty impressive looking so far.
