  1. Many times, I've talked to friends (and even potential business partners) about project ideas, etc... feeling very excited and motivated. But once the conversation is over...the appetite is satisfied. Is that ambition? I ask myself...Do I value the blah-blah-blah more than the actually achieving the goal? I hear people say "I'm going to be famous!" I'm going to do this...that...etc"... Are they ambitious? or is their a fine line between ambition & delusion? well put... thanks.
  2. What's the objective view on ambition? Is it harmful or helpful to feed ambition? Knowledge and resources get things done...not wishful thinking...right?
  3. Bosses that insist on being "involved" in "every" creative decision. Not only do I have to stop midstream and get approvals for every step. They insist on getting numerous "opinions" from everyone from the secretaries to the delivery boy. They say they "TRUST" me but that it's best to get other people's input too. This is very frustrating and creatively emasculating. I try to argue that multiple "opinions" only cause delays and holdup the primary objective. My approach is received with disdain and I come off like a whiner... At the end, the product is mediocre and me and the client are unhappy with the results (and then it's a blame-game) Is there an objective argument against "Design by Committee".. specifically how it hinders productivity and creativity?
  4. Exactly! One judges someting to be true and when one judges, they are making an opinion on what they want to be true based on thier knowledge, thoughts and opinions. So a "belief" is nothing more than a synonym for the word "want" or "desire". That's my point. On the contrary, I'm not confused about the meaning of belief. I just disagree with the over-usage of this despensible superfluous word. People hide their real thoughts by using words like belief, faith, and hope. I say people would be better off if they say: I want _________, because I want _________. Example: I want god to exist because I want it to be true. (or, basically) I want to not be wrong. If people use a truthful vocabulary, then that's when the people will speak their mind.
  5. OK, OK, it's symantics... They don't "want" to die of cancer, but they "know" they're dying of cancer. And if it's factual knowledge, then it's not a belief. it's a fact. But if they suffer from a phsycosematic disorder, then it's not true, but they "want" it to be true. Because they are "ignorant" of the "truth". Beliefs = Ignorance of the truth.
  6. I'm not ignorant, I know how the system works, I just don't think it's objectivly fair for the customer. All interactions with people are "personal" regardless of the occupation. At a restaurant, if I have the option to serve myself or be served, and I choose to be served, then an increase in the price (service fee) is warranted. A "tip" would not be neccesary here, because the waiter gets the service fee. Poor services will be handled like in any other profession. But when I have no choice but to have a server, then all I'm saying is that the price should automatically be added to the bill as a consistant service fee. It's not a "tip". It's an upgrade fee. If you have the authority to change reservations and seating arrangements (e.g: the owner), then you can even ask the customer "Since you don't have a reservation for that time, it will cost $XX to seat you sooner. Do you accept, Sir?" On the other hand, if you don't have that authority, and you accept money to "bend the rules" you are accepting a bribe. And that's a very "non-Objectionist" thing to do. Bottom line: I'll work with the existing system as it is. But if you ask me, I'll tell you "They should increase the prices and keep it simple". PS: I don't think you're ignorant, just a little bias.
  7. Zoosexuality or Beastality should not be compared to Homosexuality. Two people are sharing a "relationship" toghther. Whether it's a one-night-stand or long-term. These animals are used like sex robots...The people who have sex with them don't want the baggage that comes with a sexual relationship with a human. Hey, even prostitues have human-rights, but animals don't. OTOH, Robots are machines...animals are living creatures that feel pain. So it's not cool to inflict pain on an innocent victom, whether it be human or animal. In nature killing and eating animals is common and normal, but not sexual torture.
  8. I say, THERE IS NO SUCH THINGS AS BELIEFS! There are only DESIRES and WANTS. Things are or aren't..Whether you want it that way or not. To say "I believe" is to say "I want" Some Examples: Billy believes that God exists. = Billy wants God to exist. Sarah believes that Man in inhierently good. = Sarah wants Man to be inhierently good. Paul believes the world is flat. = All his life Paul was told the world was flat by people that raised and loved him...Paul doesn't want to betray them and risk being an outcast..So Paul wants the world to be flat so that he can be happy with his family. (or, my favorite) Chuck believes the next roll on the dice will be seven. = Damn! does Chuck want that next roll to be seven! You can argue about the benefits of irrational thinking until you're blue in the face. But that won't change the fact that your friend "WANTS" God to exist. The Muslims "WANT" Allah to exist. The Christians "WANT" Jesus to be the son of God. The list goes on...... I WANT AN ANSWER FROM YOUR FRIEND TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTION: WHAT'S THE WORST CASE SENERIO, IF SHE STOPPED WANTING GOD TO EXIST?
  9. (my 2cents) For Zeno's Paradox to be true, you must "assume" that there was a starting point of stillness with "zero" movement in any direction. Nothing is still. Everyting is in motion (even at a micro-level)... So there is no POINT A. Everything is infinitly moving and there is no time measurement that can clock it.
  10. When one goes into a restaurant (or any business for that matter) you are the customer and the business is the vendor. They set a price for the "product" and you either buy it or don't. In a restaurant, the product is the food+the waiter's services. Therefore, the prices on the menu should include tip. If the waiter does not provide good service, so what. If the food sucks, is it the waiter's fault? If the waiter is a jerk, that reflects poorly on the establishment and a complaint should be submitted. The waiter could get low tips and be on the job performing mediocre service for years without the owners knowing. I think ratings, not tips are in order. The ratings should determine the profit share of the waiters. What if an airline gate agent did not perform good customer service? Does the price of the airline ticket go down? No way! And... is it expected to give the gate agent a tip for helping you get you a better seat? No. Some services never get tipped, but some do. I guess what I'm getting at is: Why does any "service" need to be tipable? From doormans to bag-boys, limo-drivers to public bus-drivers... Who really "deserves" a tip? (BTW: I'm not a cheapskate, I tip 20% on avg. for decent service)
