  1. DUIs are not about justice, safety or breaking the law. They're about income. The states/counties need that revenue stream, and pulling people over for DUIs is a big contributor. I've seen people more impaired yelling at kids in the back seat, playing with the radio or talking on the phone or to another passenger in the car, on antihistamines, etc., yet you have one beer and you're deemed an addict, your insurance rates go up (if you're not dropped), you may lose your job, your license and your freedom. It's sick, disgusting and it has to stop.
  2. That would be third. (Bush, then Obama, now this new one. I know they're calling it second, but I refuse to play along.)
  3. Beware of this guy! http://www.solopassion.com/node/6539#comment-74231 He's obviously uninformed about FIRM and the highly unprofessional (and down right childish) approach he took in insulting others in the O'ist community left a really bad taste in my mouth.
  4. Oh and then there's this too (from The Heritage Society today): And there are still idiots that want more government programs. Asinine!
  5. From http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/go...amp;newsLang=en From The Heritage Society today: My uncle is an ENT and he makes about $100 on this procedure that is rarely done any longer.
  6. I think it would suck without the wings. The wings, for me, represent man's upward and forward movement. Striving for better and better.
  7. In your dreams! I would love to see the Cowboys go down in flames for seasons to come in their taxpayer burdened "Jerryworld."
  8. What? No one rooting for dem Cowboys? The Jedi broke up with Jessica, so has his curse not been lifted?
  9. I'd like to see gridlock at this point. (I think the stock market would too.) So I agree with khaight.
  10. As long as they're voluntary donations, I could really care less what their charity is for. As soon as any type of force is involved, then I've got a problem with them.
  11. For me, he was so great because he was ground-breaking. No one had made music that sounded like that before and certainly no one had danced like that before. I said it in another thread, and I'll post it here too...I remember watching the following awards show with my family when I was a pre-teen girl and we were all just astonished. Never before had we seen anyone move quite like that. At the point in the video where he does the moonwalk, households across America exclaimed, "How'd he do that?!" Now it's nothing, but back then, it was incredibly creative and thoroughly entertaining. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzNiZ4CjSsc

  16. Excellent video about rights illustrated with simple words and simple images so that even a dumb statist can understand it. This went on my blog and FB page. Excellent piece to use for activism.
  17. My two year anniversary was in June and besides the age part, I feel the same as The Egoist. I've learned a ton from the Front Range Objectivist Group (FROG), but lots here as well. I've also made many friends (including The Egoist) and been fortunate enough to meet many of them in person. I even found my new husband thanks to this site. Thanks all!
  18. See, for me, this was the most liberating part of being an atheist and an Objectivist. I recently had a young friend pass away unexpectedly. Although I will miss him terribly, I haven't had to wonder, "Why would this God that everyone keeps telling me is so awesome take such a great person in such an awful and painful way?" "Why does God want him now?" "Why does God want or need to take anyone now?" "Why does God cure some, but not all?" "Why does God let evil people live, yet take this good person?" etc, etc, etc The simple fact is, my friend got very sick and his body and the doctors couldn't cure him. He's gone. And I don't have to wonder where or why or if he's being punished for his "sin" of being homosexual. He is gone and we are left with the legacy he left behind...being a great, wonderful, happy person. The fact that he lived his life happily and on good terms, and the wonderful memories I have of him, gives me all the comfort I need.
  19. If only it were that easy!
  20. Do you leave your Christmas lights up year round? That'll drive em nuts!
  21. Good for your daughter! It sounds like she's on the right track and reading AS will only help. The reasoning for the class not being included is disgusting and evil, of course.
  22. There have been grumblings from blue-dog Dems about how they can possibly get elected with all this taxpayer debt their party is putting on us. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/20...8-bluedog_N.htm EDIT: I just realized that link is from January. I really did hear something about it more recently though, that was just one of the articles Google came up with for me to use in this post.
