ex_banana-eater
In France, they've just completed the highest (cable) bridge in the world. It's a great design of fanned cables on the top. I think the bridge costed about half a billion dollars in total, and was built in 3 years. Dexigner: "The bridge was designed by the English architect, Lord Norman Foster. " Coincidentally, the company that built the Eiffel Tower is the one that built this bridge. For perspective, each support that holds this bridge is larger than the Eiffel Tower. BurgessLau
It's visually boring if not underwhelming. Your conclusion is clear, but you offer no reasons. In other words, how did you arrive at your conclusions? Can you offer, as an example, a comparable structure that is exciting, even overwhelming? Brian Faulkner
When I first saw this great new creation on TV I thought of sails, of lightness, then of guiltless, free, unburdened happiness. What a beautiful, practical, meaningful achievement!
Brian Faulkner
Viaduc de Millau White steel sails beyond the clouds, Straight and perfect, light; Once aimless hills now stand together To bear man's vision bright.
pvtmorriscsa
Howdy All, I know this is a really old thread, but whilst perusing the webpage of my favorite local talk radio station I stumbled upon this PowerPoint presentation about the Viaduc de Millau. Personally I find it to be aesthetically very pleasing. In fact my first thought upon viewing the pictures was a desire to drive upon it. Furthermore the sheer engineering of it is amazing, at least to me the non-engineer. Here I think is the link, http://www.610wtvn.com/cc-common/mlib/1279..._1188929589.pps Ok so I am not allowed to attach the file, but if you cut and paste the link it seems to work.
