  1. Boxing is kinda like the individual version of Football. In Football, you have 11 guys who all must work together, doing their part to move the football down the field. And there are 11 guys on the other team who must do their part in concert to prevent that. Any one mistake by any man can potentially be exploited with disastrous results for the opposing team. (BTW, Basketball can be like this as well, especially College Basketball). In Boxing (and other martial arts), you have much the same aspects, with just one guy on each "team". Just like you can have quick-strike capabilities in Football (Arizona in the 1st qtr. against the Eagles), you can have similar situations in Boxing (Mike Tyson in his prime). Boxing just has a "mercy" rule.
  2. Counting out the Lions already, eh? I don't think it's so much about the salary cap if he leaves. He was really cheap this year, and now he's looking to get PAID. Can't blame him for that. If they lose Boldin, that would take away a huge chunk of yards, and detract quite a bit from their 3 receiver set. Remember, he has gone over 1000 yds./season for 4 out of the 6 seasons he has been in the league. Having the 3 great receivers (with Breaston) together out there opens up the running game as well. They have a pretty good offensive formula right now. You don't want to mess with it too much, IMO. I don't care. I want more Football!!!
  3. :( I hear Mike Martz is being considered for Arizona's vacated Offensive Coordinator position. This may delay Warner's retirement. I also hear Larry Fitzgerald is willing to restructure his contract to ensure Boldin's return. This would probably allow them to concentrate on their defense in the draft, and give them the best chance of repeating this season's success (despite Vegas' odds-makers' skepticism). D'kian, I think you should start the "NFL 2009" thread now.
  4. Having done a cursory perusal of the website in question, it seems it is a joke. The over-the-top actions like the one you cite, plus some of the ones that don't get acted upon, seem to indicate that the site is not sincere in its support of The Anointed One, Barack Obama, may Allah bestow peace upon him.
  5. http://ticker-classics.denninger.net/archives/2008/03.html http://market-ticker.org/archives/748-Why-...Should-Too.html FWIW, I have gone into nearly full "Capital Preservation" mode. My guy at Morgan Stanley says that even utilities are getting pooh-poohed now. I hate to be a wet blanket, but I see very hard times ahead.
  6. Yeah, 'cause those wage & price controls worked so well for Nixon. Except in this case, there are no price controls, so the only possible justification is envy.
  7. I think that if the Cardinal defense had held up for the last 2 minutes, Warner would have been the MVP (I kinda thought that he had an outside chance even in the loss). Do you think this ensures a trip to Canton for him. For the record, I do.
  8. As if further evidence were needed to ignore this buffoon....
  9. <off-topic> Your use of the term "Obamania" makes my point. Do I think the broad population in general views the man with sickening reverence? No. But it seems many do, and a lot of those are in positions where they can impose a modicum of influence over the culture. This is to what I refer. </off-topic>
  10. To not recognize the near deification of the man is to exhibit a cultural "tin ear" of the highest order. I mean, c'mon!
  11. I am not sure this follows. In any case, even those most able to reason will come to wrong conclusions if they start from incorrect premises.
  12. We are sorely lacking a :puke: smiley.
  13. Not to mention the burden of trying to produce cars that match 50 disparate sets of regulations. Sure, no problem.
  14. Minor quibble, but Nixon resigned rather than face a potential impeachment. </pedant>
  15. From the OP: Apparently, that was the aim of the author. Also apparent is that he/she did a good job.
  16. I wonder if it will come down to a fight between the Patriots and the Steelers for "Team of the Decade". Probably too late for the Steelers.
  17. If this doesn't seal this former grocery store clerk's trip to Canton, then entry into the Hall of Fame will have become meaningless. Without Warner, neither St. Louis nor Arizona would have even had a sniff at the big game.
  18. Kinda almost gives us in Detroit some hope. Nah, WTF am I thinking.
  19. We are pretty much there. As to Ron Paul/whoever....it seems that we (Objectivists) tend to let the perfect be the enemy of the good sometimes. It is simply a political reality that an Objectivist President (even as a candidate) is highly unlikely anytime soon. Should we then be reduced to either voting against Brand X vs. Brand Y (or vice versa) or abstaining until an Objectivist "Messiah" comes along to liberate us? Face it, we are destined to be voting for the lesser of evils for the foreseeable future.
