  1. So, based on this idea of infinite sustainability, are you stating that our sun is infinite? Or will it change? Will it be consumed and changed into other forms?
  2. What kind of government does Saudi Arabia have? And the "threat" of "limited oil" is favorable to their ability to sell at higher prices. How is solar sustainable? Requires energy and materials to produce the cells, then it requires storage for the energy that is developed through a very, very inefficient process. Yeah, it's getting better, but the cost, which is a function of work, is expensive. Work is energy too. Is that "sustainable"? After all, that requires energy and materials to produce that also.
  3. The other side of that coin is that "bad things" have happened and will continue to happen without human intervention. And I'm with DavidOdden, what is "sustainable development"?
  4. If one goes to basic training or another military school, you're always going to school in the military, invariably, there are times that you're armed. And the military doesn't always have the brightest bulbs in the box. Might even have some of the people that were carrying illegal weapons on city streets now in the military training right next to you with a loaded, fully automatic weapon capable of being used to accurately put a round in a shoulder width object from 0m to 600m. Always requires intent and then action to use the items in that way. All of these non carry places haven't changed anything in making anything more safe. Just made it illegal, statutorily, to bring certain equipment to protect oneself, one's property, and the same for others. Certainly never makes it impossible for someone to bring something in and do damage to those that follow the rules who are now not capable of having an equalizer.
  5. Well, do you know that all the kids aren't carrying anyway? There aren't even small numbers of issues in military training programs with individuals of the same age group. A gun is a gun. It doesn't have intent.
  6. Not always. In my area, most households have individual, private wells.
  7. There is already plenty of government interference in US health care. He's proposing more. Agreed, it does matter. Bad ideas must be shown for what they are. Individual rights are paramount.
  8. Cool! Too bad that I work really early in the morning. Nice to see something close.
  9. Agreed. Power. Most "ism's" are about power away from the individual, except real capitalism. Revenge is just a way to generate blame to gain the power. See Rules for Radicals.
  10. Ah... www.purevolume.com/16hourdrive Found you on Facebook. Sweeeet!
  11. Aren't they? One can talk but have no audience. Isn't that why totalitarian governments jail those that spread thoughts of freedom through speech or the written word? That is a loss of freedom of speech. One can bear arms, but having a rifle or a pistol does have to be purchased or made from raw materials. If one is singled out by fraud or force from purchasing a rifle, is it not a loss of the right to bear that arm?

Government doesn't need to be there to pool money together to achieve goals faster. A value for value option for individuals to choose of their own free will is the only moral option. No need for anything complex. As long as those goals place no force against others, it works great. If it does produce that force, then that would be the opportunity for a moral government protecting individual rights could be called in to intervene.

    It's easy. Make taxation voluntary.

I'm supposed to assume a system of objective justice then?

Well, how do "minors" have say? Why are taxes moral? Because? Taxes should be voluntary.

So, the rule of law trumps individual rights that the government is bound to protect? Where is the objective rationality and morality?
  18. SD26

That's quite collective. So, "the people" have rights over individuals? What is your morality standard for the minority? What if the people vote groups into office that decide that certain minority groups should be jailed and exterminated? Or that some groups should receive tax money because they meet certain criteria that these people voted into office have determined?

Well, why should a free individual be required to pay taxes? It appears that you're making "paying taxes" part of your determination of "voter eligibility". What other requirements are you suggesting?
  20. Reagan thought the world of Harding. Harding was the one that, following the academic ideology of Wilson and his depression, basically told the US people that it's gonna suck, but nothing the government does will help. I think it was about nine months later that the US emerged from that depression and the roaring 20's were born. Died in office. Might be the only non-progressive US President in over 100 years.

I don't think there is an excellent justification. Don't many child labor laws have their origins in the unions restricting the availability of the workforce? This is my understanding. I don't think age is necessarily a condition of logic, reason, etc. Some leave college less rational than when they entered, for example. I don't see where "new public education" has necessarily improved the rationality or even the knowledge of the students that it produces where they are productive for themselves let alone society. With some amount of age does come some amount of experience though. Drinking laws of 21 seem to have no basis of reason as the individuals that really want to get alcoholic beverages are still more than able to get them and use them. Just as individuals that want to get and use illegal drugs for all age groups seem to be capable of accomplishing this. If we wanna talk "private roads", on race tracks, racing organizations have developed their criteria for ages and the machinery that can be used. Relates to some life experiences that seem to be recognized by those that make the rules and have to be responsible to the rest of the racing community. I will say that the insurance industry has jumped in making restrictions now on ages in racing that have no bearing on what experiences that the organizations have seen and experienced.
  22. Yeah, that's gonna slow down their opportunity to see it.
  23. Roger that. Is it R or PG13? Haven't kept track. Went to Terminator 4 last week. And we have lots of discussions about how the current government takes from individuals. That's more dark.
