Woody Allen has a strange take on the democracy that allowed him to become rich and famous.

The "Scoop" director said it would be a cool idea for President Barack Obama to be dictator for for a few years.

Why?

So he could get things done without all the hassle of opposing views getting in the way.

I like how Fox thinks having a dictatorship of one man is wrong, but having a dictatorship of many that "allow" you to become rich is a good thing. I don't know which is more sobering.

That's just bananas.

Woody Allen never struck me as a fascist, so these remarks are surprising to say the least. I hope this was said tongue in cheek, because besides how scary it is if it wasn't, I'd like to think after watching so many of his movies that I'd be able to pick up on such a disgusting view of the world. Say what you want about him, but a mainstay in almost all of his work is an irreverant, playful dismantling of many societal and personal sacred cows.

Whether he was serious or not, I was not happy to see this in the news today. :P

This was quoted from a Spanish-language newspaper, from an interview that was (presumably) conducted in English, then translated back into English by Fox.

I don't put much stock in quotes that appear in print. Who knows what the person really said?

Well then, if it was mistranslated, Allen better speak up and say so...and FAST.
