I do wish the screenwriters had put more effort into their rhetoric about freedom vs. slavery, but other than that it was a lot of fun. The basic premise was that Jet Li was taken as a young child and turned into a "dog" . . . capable only of obedience. It is a fun expose of the fact that, no matter what indignities you expose someone to, you can't ever really control them. It makes humans unlikely subjects for any would-be slave masters.
