  1. I am learning C on the advice of my cousin, who is going to employ me to help him with his software projects in return for him developing a website I need built later this year. My problem is that once I have done the tutorial projects from the website I am going to use to learn C, I do not know how to compile the .c file into a program. I only need one file compiled at a time - at least for now (I don't know about later tutorials). My version of Linux (Kubuntu 8.10) has GCC installed. As for makefiles, I don't know how to create them or what to put in them.
  2. I want to learn C, but I don't know how to compile C in Linux. How do I do it?
  3. I'd say that confirms my belief that it is time to stop arguing with him. Is it worth continuing with this guy any further?
  4. Good job at trapping him. It is a shame he will delude himself into thinking he was not trapped.
  5. It is definitely time to ignore him. It was probably time ages ago, though I cannot be sure without the full context.
  6. I think student loans merely worsen the problem rather than create it. I think the problem is one of an epistemological nature that is caused by people's choices and by the standards of universities and colleges. Scraping student loans won't fix that problem (though it should still be done); creating proper entry standards will. On a side note, does anyone here think having to pass your last year of high school or study an equivalent at the university is a good enough standard? I am not sure.
  7. No, I think USA has contributed more science wise. I wouldn't know in terms of art and culture though.
  8. Here in NZ we have no "class dues" but we do have "school fees" at "public" schools. However, they are optional by law. The schools try to make them sound mandatory though of course.
  9. I'd rather not pay and thus not go.
  10. That is probably just as bad.
  11. I prefer lighter backgrounds on websites. Dark colours don't look good as website backgrounds. As such am glad about this change.
  12. I was not happy when I heard the news the other day that they were ordered to pay such a large sum, but now I am happy to read the ruling has been overturned and that they only have to pay damages.
  13. Welcome and I hope you enjoy your time here.
  14. How is that the case? The original post said, "One guard always lies, the other always tells the truth" Sounds to be like only what one says is a lie and what the other says is the truth.
  15. Only if one was to be silly and take the context as separate from the man for whom it is the context. But as I said, that is silly. A man's context is not isolated; it is tied to the man who's context it is. If one bares that in mind then one will not see such an implication, one will instead see the two rather than just one.
  16. Indeed. The right word is contextual. It is interesting though that this came up because I was thinking about the distinction earlier today.
  17. Here in NZ "they" are the petrol companies. The NZ government, which is heading towards a mixture of Communism and Fascism very fast, is going to do an "inquiry" into why petrol companies (apparently) raise prices quicker than they lower them. But petrol companies get just 8% of the price of petrol in NZ and that covers both costs and profits. The government on the other hand gets 40%. So, in short, the inquiry is a smoke screen. So is all government talk about "they".
  18. They will hit it eventually no matter what they do. Knowing them they will try evade learning from the collision.
  19. When you get right down to it regardless of whether or not they drive up the price of crude oil, they are doing nothing morally wrong. They are trading value for value in a voluntary and mutually advantageous trade. That is moral action. I think that is the most important consideration in this issue. Edit: I clarified the wording. Clarification: My point is that it doesn't matter whether or not they raise prices. What matters most is that whatever they are doing, it is a moral action that all parties involved benefit from. Well, with the exceptions of those that make bad decisions, in which case they pay the prices for their mistakes. By "they" I merely mean the people trading on the Futures market.
  20. Better to be punished than to have a cross burned on one's arm.
  21. The same would be true of the gas and oils fields in NZ like the Maui gas and oil field, which is shipping oil overseas for refining and burning off the gas. There are also several other places that are believed will turn up as good prospects. In fact many believe NZ will be the next Norway if enough of the prospects turn out to be as good as predicted. All of them or almost all of them are offshore, meaning NZ would not become the next Norway no matter how good the prospects are if we had such a restriction.
  22. None because I don't care to spend that much money on a car.
  23. Now you misunderstand what I was saying. What I was saying involved no duty or compulsion. That is not similar to what I said. What does have a similar to what I said is a young child getting a gold star for achieving a high standard in a class.
