  1. Hi all, I'm looking for websites / op-eds / essays (online) that explain *concisely and clearly* why deregulation / privatization improves a market (especially of things that most keynesians think should be provided by the gov't, such as unemployment). I've run across a few dozen of these before that I can remember, but I don't usually "save" websites... I figured some of you might have some particularly good ones saved at your fingertips. Edited: Clarity, grammar.
  2. I agree, maybe the messy pile of legos should instead be in a "new" box of legos that he's pulling them out of
  3. Hi guys, I found a cool lego sculpture that reminded me of Bobbie Carlyle's "Self-Made Man" It is called "Blue" by Nathan Sawaya, a lego artist. (His other stuff is nothing special) I've always liked the lego medium Hope you enjoy this one!
  4. Woohoo, now an easy example to reference when fighting the good fight. Thanks for the tipoff!

  7. That all sounds great, and made me smile! I gave my mom AS a few years ago, after which she read TF too... and though she's not an Objectivist, I definitely see a change in her, especially regarding atheism, reason, individualism, and free markets.
  8. There are some private libraries in the US, one of which I am a member. An article about private libraries in the NYT
  9. This is lame, but it was the first to pop into my head. "Property Right" as in, you know 'the right to property' but also like 'property.... right' like, real estate properties... done right. idk
  10. Here is one from a few years ago: I personally find them both to not be very funny.. but hey, they reference Ayn Rand, which I guess is good. But I think that they both do so in a barely-audible negative light, as if they are being referenced because they are so long ("tedious") instead of amazing and inspiring literature.
  11. Agreed, as a twenty-something with no mental illness, I have many of the same trepidations you are mentioning about issues in the 'real world,' most importantly, financial issues/planning. Having your mother help introduce you to and teach you about the processes of financial independence (how to balance a checkbook, etc) will help give you a good base of reference and ease you into a more comfortable zone with these issues.
  12. Ok all joking aside, and keeping in mind the fact that hyper-specific scenarios like this are not the standards by which someone constructs a system of ethics, by what standard (besides your 'feelings') "would it be the right thing to do"
  13. Well then let the poor f*ker die, I have 10 mil on the line!!
  14. Can't I go to the stock exchange and call the guy an ambulance from my car phone?
  15. FWIW, Edwin Locke's tapes "Stress and Coping; An Inductive Approach" goes over these questions. I found them very helpful for understanding what stress is, how it is caused, and how to cope with it.
  16. David Odden, though I don't agree with eriatarka, for what its worth, his claims are exactly what I have been taught in my Linguistics 1 course: many grammatical rules (such as "he and I / he and me" or the fact that "she learned me that book" is grammatically incorrect) are creations of the upper class as a 'social filter' with no linguistic significance.
  17. I will second the suggestion for Hazlitt's Economics in One Lesson
  18. New for 19$ CtUI is a collection of essays, whereas the Capitalist Manifesto provides the history needed to induce the principles of capitalism. Much more systematic than CtUI, I would say for 19$ its very worthwhile purchase.
