  1. for what reason do people use the concept of certainty to mean infallible knowledge? If certainty is a characteristic only open to fallible, volitional beings like man, then why would one define it out of the possibility for mans use? Doesnt make sense to me.
  2. what if i would rather vote for hitler (only because he is dead) than any of the candidate i see? I think a cadaver would make a wonderful president, maybe if it were still in recent condition it would still have a spine unlike all the candidates I know of.
  3. i doesnt really bother me too much. Just I didnt realize it was that popular. From what I hear and read in the media, and by what I see around me, I have no reason to believe that christianity is popular.
  4. truthfully, no i didnt know it was popular. I guess maybe thats because college really isnt a place where religious beliefs are encouraged. I only have maybe 7 people I know that are religious. The other couple hundred friends are atheist or at least agnostic.
  5. I was amazed how active it is. There are a few sites that have about 2000 members each. Kinda hurts to see how well its doing. but I guess they are free to believe what they want, just bothers me.
  6. so its your forum now eh? Just joking. Dont reply to that. I know what you mean in your post.
  7. no they come to insult, because they think they can "convert" some of us to their more "logical" way of thinking: like the one who listens to trees for all his knowledge.
  8. hey WASSSSUPPPPP God, I hate that saying.
  9. yep thats a clever one. I prefer sarcasm though. Sarcasm and irony. This may seem sadistic or odd but i have to tell someone this story. My friends and I were walking to the movie theater. (im college age by the way and we live in a small college town). THis jerk drives by with a bunch of girls in his car (he was most likely a high school kid) and yells "WALKING IS COOL TOO!!!" as if we are losers because we dont have cars. The funny thing is that he got in an accident right at the corner where we turn to go to the movie theater. I laughed for a good 15 minutes. I dont know if its right to laugh at others misfortune, but I think he had it coming. Does anyone else find that funny? He mocked walking and then got in a car accident. It doesnt get much better than that if you are into irony.
  10. when will those stupid humans learn that space, science and technology are all constructs of stupid human logic. mwuahahahhahahah Sorry I felt that sarcasm was necessary, because I need to get it out of my system, Ive been around too many skeptics lately.
  11. Have you read the book "the art of winning conversations"? Long story short, its a bad book dont read it.
  12. i have designed many logos for websites. I probably have done 3 paying websites, and all of my friends websites. I love graphic design. However I am inept when it comes to html and other qualities you mentioned. Too bad. I can work photoshop like no other. HAHAHA

    Abortion

i believe that abortion is moral as long as the baby cant survive on its own. It is merely the woman choosing not to support the little "moocher" any longer. HAHAHAHA
  14. sounds like a good thing. why dont you just rub it in? HAHAHA...
  15. No one is going to like what I read. But thats okay...I dont need you to. I read EVERYTHING!!!! (and i mean it in the casual sense). I read Hemingway, Hugo, Rand, Salinger, Orwell, Achebe, Dumas, Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, Dickens, Morrison,, Shakespeare, King, Clancy, Marx, Kant, Bible?(several authors or god, which ever you believe), Bill Oreilly, Limbaugh, Micheal Moore, both Clintons (im reading bills book now), and much much more. I like to know all views. I believe reading, even what you disagree with, is still a learning experience.
  16. Hippie: how can you not think there is volition? do you believe in punishment of crime? Without volition we have no right to punish those who commit crimes. Because they were forced to do it. Do you think that you must type to me on the computer? I think you are confusing determinism with the fact that you cant change the past. Just because what is done cant be changed, doesnt mean that you cant act differently in the future. I think you are letting that confuse you.
  17. No, he cannot reamain inside of reality and control all of it. So, you argue omnipotence is possible in reality? how? Someone told me this argument and I find it very helpful. If god has no limit to his power...can god have the power to limit his power? If he does...is he still omnipotent? You are arguing a moot point. If god is not defined and with evidence to support its existence, then there is no reason to even consider the possibility of a god. Can you define god? If not then there is no reason to even argue your point. Until evidence is provided it is merely the creation of one's imagination. It is the equivalent of me saying: "jakjdo iajfi mkczjpoiz jk exists." If i dont define it and i dont provide evidence, how the He11 do you even know what I saying exists? Can you refute that it exists? Probably not, because i havent specifically said what it is that I am talking about. So, without defintion there can be no argument for exists, and when there is no argument for its existence, then there is no NEED to argue against its existence. There is point and should be dismissed without any further discussion. Yet these type of debates happen all of the time. Kinda weird eh?
  18. i find this to be a better definition, although the others are correct. This is just more precise: " not existing in nature or subject to explanation according to natural laws; not physical or material" The natural realm is reality. And everything in reality is subject to explanation to natural laws. Every being is defined by physical and material characteristics. Thats where the supernatural is found outside of reality. Because it lacks identity and definition. All that which is inside of reality is bound by the law of identity, and can therefore be defined.

    Modern History

im telling you american chronicles is the best for your situation. It has little clips of newspapers for every major event in the 20th century in America. And for the not so big stories, they write a little detailed response.
  20. Wow you translated it from French? That must have been hard. I have taken 6 years of French and I can very loosely translate the book. I just took the easy way out and read the English version. I wanted to get the most of the book, so a loose translation wasnt going to cut it.
  21. So are you a morman? Or is that being presumptuous? Maybe a Johovahs witness? They like to come to places where they arent welcome, just like you.
  22. Nice to meet you. I hope you have fun in these forums.
  23. maybe you could think clearer if you werent doing this all day:

    Modern History

There is a 20th century American Chronicle. That covers most big events and semi big events in the 20th century. If you are looking for one particular aspect of culture then I can recommend other books. But for general knowledge of the 20th century in America I would recommend that.
