  1. Being productive is a virtuous thing, but pretending like ends of that productivity are irrelevant is silly. The act of Hitler writing Mein Kampf was about as virtuous as a Neo-Nazi typing and posting "death to all Jews" on Twitter. So not very.
  2. Sort of a lighter topic, but it's something I find interesting. If Dolphins are capable of communicating abstract concepts through complex language, would that mean they have the capacity for rational thought? Would they be deserving of protections if this was discovered to be the case? Purely hypothetical as how complex their methods of communication are is not yet known, but I am interested in hearing some answers. I think this would apply to hypothetical alien life as well. Here's a short article on the subject: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/dolphins-whistle-their-names-with-complex-expressive-patterns/
  3. Unhid this because it's someone voicing their frustration with mod action they perceived to be unjust, maybe justifiably so though I don't know the context. I don't think people should be stopped from advocating for themselves, even colorfully if they feel they are being persecuted unfairly.
  4. I don't have an answer for the role not appearing on my profile, so I'll defer to @dream_weaver or @DavidV on that one. I can, however, say that both me and @EC were just made moderator within the last few hours. It was pretty fast, and I'm sorry if you thought there should be more notice given, but it is what it is. Maybe one of the admins can make an announcement if they think it's appropriate.
  5. Oh, do you not see the context of the warnings? Sorry about that still getting used to this.
  6. I've already dealt with plenty of weirdos in online Objectivist communities. Israel specifically really breaks their brain for whatever reason. It's been my impression that most of the people with a ton of vitriol towards ARI-the type of person to scream "OBLEFTIVIST!" at anyone who disagrees with them-are either openly antisemitic or close to it. /pol/ weirdos and/or MAGA people not willing to completely let go, it seems. Quite sad.
  7. Preferably around my age of 21. Old people are cool and all but I would like to do fun young person activities with some Randroid broskis. I enjoy go-karting/other racing stuff, arcades, going to movies, etc. Also not opposed to grabbing a drink somewhere if that's your scene. Currently in a relationship so I apologize if you've been charmed by my winning personality, but that's not what I'm here for.
  8. Glad I could make a good first impression!
  9. One thing that's interesting to me about online political discourse is how conspiracy theory nonsense like this is parroted to the point that it becomes an incontrovertible forgone conclusion in the minds of most people. Simply calling the PLO "a secular government" without expanding on that is a lie by omission, or you're just gravely misinformed about the history of this conflict. The PLO was hijacking planes and engaging in general terroristy action just as much as Hamas is currently. The organizations which were the predecessors to Hamas were initially focused on stuff like charities and education, for which Israel provided funding and licenses to operate as providers of social services. The Islamist groups at the time did not openly harbor violent intentions towards Israel like the PLO did, and were even willing to work with the Israeli government in the pursuit of providing social services. This was obviously all revealed to be a smokescreen by the 1980s as the peaceful Islamist groups had started using their influence to spread a much more militant mindset, which was the catalyst for a series of events that lead up to the First Intifada. Regardless, it was simply Israeli's optimism about the honesty of Islamist groups that lead to the situation we have today. They didn't want to be at war, and they were swindled by wolves in sheep's clothing in an attempt to stop it. I'm skipping over a large number of details here because I'm not your history teacher, and it's really on you for not knowing this stuff in the first place. At the moment, you're not even justified in having any sort of opinion on the present conflict considering you needed to have this explained to you. I would recommend you get off Twitter and read some basic history of Israel and Palestine before commenting again. Just to clarify, it's your fault that your opinion is dumb and you should feel bad about your dumb opinion because it sucks. Thanks for reading!
