  1. I agree that criminals rely on the "non-snitching" nature of others but what is it you want to discuss?
  2. Welcome. Have you read any other Rand books besides Anthem?
  3. Judging by the text posted at the top, it sure does not seem like this is giving authority to kill abortion doctors unless they were performing an abortion against the patients will. I can't envision when a circumstance like this would come up, but it seems to be what the bill is saying. People seem to be overreacting without actually reading what is in the bill. Correct me if my interpretation is incorrect.
  4. Then the "all powerful being" would have never thought of killing the other clone since it would have known it would have led to a contradiction. If you left out the "which does not self contradict" part then it would be a logically sound.
  5. I read about this a few weeks ago but I haven't actually seen the computer in action. Does anyone know if the robot uses voice recognition or if the question is uploaded to it?

    Abortion Question

Going on the assumption that everyone views sex as enjoyable (which they don't), it would still not be a necessity to live a rational life. Likewise, just because of the harmful effects of smoking, it hardly categorizes the user as someone who cannot lead a rational life.

    Skyline

Nice detail and it is easy to envision each sentence in my head.

    Child Labor

You may find this interesting. http://forum.ObjectivismOnline.com/index.php?showtopic=9653
  9. Nice to see that a majority of the comments on the article are criticisms (or at least the ones I saw).
  10. Have you actually met anyone who is not passionate about anything? Personally, I have only come across people who hold a career that is not their true passion, never someone who has no desire to do any type of work.
  11. Thank you so much for posting this. I never would have known about it but I'm definitely planning on staying up tonight.
  12. Truly amazing. I wonder what percent of people viewing this realize that the sole reason for this is capitalism.
  13. I like how the interviewer thought that last question about Rand's smoking was going to stump Brook...
  14. Good to hear. Here is a working link since the original one posted didn't work for me: http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/13/health.care/index.html?iref=allsearch
  15. Great post but I disagree with the last part. I think it is very important to have a context with which you can go about judging a piece of music. All music is created for a specific audience or purpose and it seems pointless to judge it independent of that fact.
  16. Not at all what I expected when I clicked on the link. Entertaining video and you have a good voice. edit: Very catchy song, I'm singing it in my head haha.
  17. The characters of Hank and Dagny look nothing at all like I imagined them. However that is not too important and I am glad that the reviewer thinks the movie will do justice to the book. I agree with his suggestion to the director he talked about at the end of the review, great catch.
  18. Thanks for the link. I have never heard of that video channel and probably watched 20-30 videos off of it last night. All really interesting.
  19. I thought since Assange is a hacker that is how they obtained it. Do they get it by submissions from people or a different way?
  20. Hacking is a violation of people's rights as far as I'm concerned.
  21. Objectivism is based around the freedom of the individual. Hopefully you can connect the dots on what an O'ist view of consumerism would be.
  22. I knew the day would come when I could stop eating my spinach in fear!
  23. Living with your own self-interest in mind does not mean that you live with an indifference to every other person. There are many rational reason a person could have to give to charity or help others. edit: Objectivist view on charity if your interested: http://www.ayn-rand.info/cth--1226-Charity.aspx
  24. I found this in an article written in 1998: I think it is amazing how this explanation would never be used to describe Gates today. It is amazing to see how many of the billionaires have transformed over the years. It is puzzling how Gates tries to convince others to donate their money along with his relentless campaign (with his father) for higher taxes (or Washington state taxes at least).
