KevinDW78
Just got back from voting. Never voted on a computer before, kinda cool. Anyway I did Obama, then everyone else democrat. That's cuz, again, I live in Utah, so the entire political spectrum is vastly shifted. Democrat here means "moderate". I said no to all the judges and no to any initiative involving money. Thomas M. Miovas Jr.
I did a protest write-in for President, John Galt*, hoping that maybe someone will read it and understand that I want my government to uphold individual rights. For the rest, I voted mixed and cross-party as a registered Republican, hoping for gridlock. I figure if the government is fighting itself, that will give me more freedom. Though I think I voted primarily Republican for US House and Senate, since I think Democrats will have a majority. I actually wasn't voting FOR anyone, but rather AGAINST everyone being one party, until something better comes along. I voted YES for beer and wine sales in my local district, since if I want to drink alcohol, I have to drive more than ten miles to get it. Don't want a bunch of winos in my area, but I figure they could get it if they wanted it anyhow. *I guess we have to be careful about this, just in case some day a real guy named John Galt shows up and is possibly viable for voting into office accidentally I know it is somewhat trivial, but I don't know of a real person who I would vote FOR given my principles. Shinokamen
I voted for Ron Paul for president, rather than abstain. (There is no line to write on in colorado, so I just wrote it up the side between the other names and the line.) I voted all republican for the rest of the offices. Oh, and NO on amendment 48! TheEgoist
I'm sure Dr. Paul would love amendment 48.
FeatherFall
I submitted a largely blank ballot, including the presidential section (I refuse to give my sanction to statists). I did vote against a state healthcare referendum.
ds1973
OK for all my talk of voting 3rd party, I just couldn't bring myself to vote for any candidate for president. I did vote for a republican for NY state assembly who, on the issues positions test at www.vote-smart.org, answered pro-choice, pro-gun, pro-death penalty and for reducing or maintaining tax levels (no increases). In NY we had one amendment to make it possible for disabled veterans, who are not receiving disability benefits, to get civil service credits on "competitive civil service examinations". I also abstained from voting for offices where I only had 1 choice (Socialist Buffalonian State Senator, county judge, family court judge). For my congressional rep, I voted Republican, mainly because our current rep is a big government socialist. You should have seen the form letter I got outlining all the great reasons why the government should "rescue the financial services industry". She blamed the whole disaster on deregulation, lack of oversight, and loss of transparency - basically not enough government regulations led to this failure in the market. So, in the end, the numbers will show someone who came out to vote, but abstained from choosing a president. They can't blame it on hanging chads in NY either, we have those nifty mechanical voting machines. I think I like this whole selective voting process. Hellstrife
I live in Illinois, which is probably going to go 90 percent Obama, so I knew my vote wouldn't mean anything, so I voted with my heart and went for Bob Barr because he was the closest thing to sane out there. If I lived in a swing state though, I would have gone for McCain -- anyone is better than Chairman Obama.
Erik Christensen
Voted for McCain, not because I like him, but because Obama is evil personified. Voted against all my state ballot measures. I live in Montana Voted for Roy Brown Republican for Governor, and voted Constitution Party where there was no Republican candidate. Anyway one looks at it, the sad fact about this election year can be summed up this way: WE'RE SCREWED '08.

Yep...it's being called as of 10pm central, that Obama won the Presidency with a Democrat majority in both the House and the Senate. Still, if the Republicans had a back bone, they could prevent run away socialism; but they don't, so I just hope it doesn't get that far explicitly. Chops
I wrote in my parents for president and VP. So, practically speaking, I abstained, for the reasons presented in other threads: I cannot in good conscience give support to either candidate in the form of a vote. Miles White
Prez: Bob Bar Republicans for everything else Same here. I'm from California and I voted No on prop 8, despite it's passage. In one of the most liberal states in the country, governed by one of the most liberal republicans in the party, we still can't legalize gay marriage...and they say religion is a minority. SherryTX
I wrote in "John Galt" for president, and then selected real candidates - the ones that were unopposed that I wasn't familiar with I skipped, and for many of the other local positions I voted for a libertarian candidate - because most of those, I know they are not for taxes, and for reigning government in, unless there was a candidate, such as Sam Johnson, that I was already really familiar with and liked how he voted against the bail out and tried to push an alternative plan. Mammon
I meant to reply to this thread, but I saw I didn't. I'm not going to say who or what I voted for. Some time when I was a child I remember talking about voting and this old WWII vet said that people talk to much about who they voted for and it creates problems. He said he talked to Germans who were beaten or threatned because they said they didn't vote for the Nazi party. He said he fought for the right to keep it secret. He said that in his day their was some unspoken tradition or agreement that you don't talk about who you vote for. Maybe that had a lot of impact on me. But, I vowed to never talk about it. I don't think you should, to be honest. The most telling things about people are their sexual fantasies, their financial habits and who they voted for. I usually try to keep them all secret because I value my privacy and don't want to let people in; as strange as it sounds. I did vote however, and I was proud that I did. I noticed the Props and Amends sections langauge is horrendous and now I know why they write them like that -- so you don't know what's going on. This should be a bigger issue. I think so at least. softwareNerd
Why do you say that?Surely you understand why someone would guess that; why play it like a game where you don't explain your full position, and wait to see if the other person is making the wrong judgment? People cannot read your mind, and will sometimes make a best guess about your position. Why let people get any false impression, if you can avoid it? Do you gain something from that? If so, hopefully it is something more that trapping people in a mistake that they're making. So, let's take this particular guess.... For starters, you've said that it is wrong to abstain. Secondly, you have been more vocally critical of the GOP than of Obama. Not sure if you've mentioned the third parties; but, it's safe to assume that you aren't a cheerleader for one of them. Therefore, it is a reasonable guess that you voted for Obama, with a third-party guess being a runner-up guess. Could this be wrong? Obviously! but so what? Does it prove anyone making a best guess is being illogical? Edited November 15, 2008 by softwareNerd
Steve D'Ippolito
Actually, I have yet to see ANY criticism of Obama from him. When directly challened to do so in another thread he ignored it. He's also ignored similar challenges in chat. I would be *greatly* surprised if he did not vote for Obama, and with enthusiasm (rather than a held nose) to boot.
