I just heard an interview Couric had with Palin. She made two points which I thought were interesting.

1> she believes in evolution and believes it should be taught as part of the science curricula in school.

2> she doesn't believe abortions should be illegal, even though she opposes them. To be sure, her position on abortion I consider to be fundamentally wrong (life begins at conception), but I also get the impression she senses it's not right to punish someone for it, which makes her pro choice. Or, maybe not, but almost.

Here is the interview:

Everything about her is really quite American. She is a very pleasant, likeable, hardworking, mother and citizen politician.

True she is all of those things but that is not sufficient for a person to be qualified for a position of American president. I don't think she is stupid but she lacks knowledge and it shows. Watching her I had an impression, on more than one occasion, that she did not understand the question at all. It was like watching a beauty pageant contestant stumbling on a question - pretty, likable, but completely off.

I agree with that completely. But I dont think those things reflect badly upon her. The inablity to answer certain questions, and her lack of foreign policy knowledge tells us more about McCain. After all, he is the one that plucked her out of obscurity and thrust her into the limelight. She needs a good performance thursday night. If she stays on the attack, she will be alright. But was she the most qualified person to be on the ticket with McCain? Hell no. And you are right, it shows.

VP debates tend to be as incinsequential as the VPs themselves, except for the one-liners like "Who am I? What am I doing here?" and "Senator, you're no Jack kennedy." There's a sense that the latter was utterly devastating, but, really, it was against Dan Quayle whom no one took seriously.

I figure if Biden can avoid any major gaffes, he'll be declared the winner.

You have really got it in for this woman dont you. ..... Contrary to what Obama would like everyone to believe, his decision to oppose the Iraq war was made out of ignorance of the facts in the absense of any accountability, not because of some brilliant political foresight.

I would refer you to that Procol Harem quote in your signature as it suits you quite well.

All your response is utter nonsense.

I want someone who is intelligent and insightful to run, not some buffoon whose only claim to fame is running a state with the population of Boston.

I cannot understand how it is you could support the Iraq war. It has drained the economy of billions while resulting in the emboldening of Al Qaeda and Iran.

The Bush administration is a total failure. I cannot wait for Obama to whip their sorry asses in this election.

As for you, may you wallow in your own idiocy.

I would agree that the Bush administration was a failure, but do you honestly think Obama or McCain will HELP anything?

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that neither Ronald Reagan nor Bill Clinton had forign policy experience before taking office, other than what little was required as Governor.

The "Intelligent" Design thing blows it for Palin to me, however, the opposition is no better. Biden is a gasbag Washington hack.

We're screwed.

And the abortion issue. She's too strong on it. I can live with a pro life candidate. I'll have to grit my teeth, but I can live with it if they aren't too strong. But when you're that intense about the issue, it's incredibly difficult for me to see past it.

Like what you said about Reagan and Clinton. I considered voting write in candidate Reagan's corpse. He was far from perfect, but he was a hell of a lot better then anyone else since, and better then most before him (Jefferson and some of the other founding fathers/presidents are the exceptions).

Plus, it's a great opportunity for gridlock. A corpse can't sign legislation...

Reagan was the largest welfare statist of the last 50 years. He was a total blockhead and one of the worst presidents in US history.

The question was who was responsible for the financial crisis, the "predatory lenders" or the people who took out the loans. Ummm..... what about government intervention? Their answers is that it is the "greedy" Wall St. workers that caused it. What a joke.

Now they are talking about which candidate will regulate the economy more... Is this bizarro world? Do they really think this is a good thing? WTF?

No kidding.

Washington is operating on the premise that the 'free market' (as if there currently is one) is at fault for this mess. Nobody has thought to question whether or not the premise is even true. Not even the Republicans are questioning it.

You know, I didn't really like Ron Paul. But he definately scored some points in my book when he said this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ticytEUvVhQ

I though Palin was supposed to be a right-wing conservative, she sounds more like a socialist to me with all the talk of "greedy" oil companies and such. If she's a right-wing extremist, then so is Obama. lol

I just turned it off. It's bad for my heart to get this angry when I hear our future "leaders" talking the way they do.

Yeah I need a hug...in an intellectual way of course. These humans make me want to throw up. And the humans that buy this garbage make me want to eat my own vomit...in an intellectual way of course.

I think the greatest line so far has been, though I can only paraphrase Biden, "When we're talking about taxing and taking money from the oil companies to give to the American people, we don't call it 'redistribution.' We call it 'being fair.'" He had a look on his face as if he was legitimately offended that she tried to call it for what it is.

I like Palin, I'd vote for her for President if she was running in that capacity. I know I called her a socialist earlier, but I like her views on Iran, and drilling for oil.
